Headligh lens removal?

Hi Guys i am sure there must be a previous thread on this question but more recently new experience may have come in. I read some time back that people put the headlight assembly in the oven set on low and when the gentle heat has soaked into the adhesive which attaches the lens to the housing, then after removing the clips the lens can be gently prized off.

Is this correct? and if some one has carried this operation out, can they give any advice? any info will be appreciated. Herbie.

Correct Herbie, been done several times over the years on the forums.

Different people have different methods. Personally I;

- heat oven up to 80'C

- remove metal clips first, put headlight in

- leave for 5 minutes

- remove, try to pull apart

- put back in oven for a couple of minutes

- remove, pull a bit more apart and so on

Don't have it so hot you melt them and don't leave them in there for too long.

Then use a heatgun to remove the original sealant if prefer, or re-use the original sealant when it comes to putting it all back together.

It is an easy job to do - just don't leave them and go off and do something else/forget about them!

Patience is key! I wasn't and set oven to 200 and chucked the light in and then proceed to go outside and remove the other light, at which point I got a phone call.....you can guess what happened! £300 for a new set (which is cheap compared to now!). Also cost me 50 quid on a takeaway and another 50 for someone to professionally clean the oven 😕

There is a thread on here somewhere to save someone redoing it. Guide that many of us followed....some better than others! Lol

It's easy. I followed a guide either was on here or supraforums.com

Remove clips on headlight. I think there are 5.

Remove rubber strips on the light.

Put headlight in pre heated oven 100deg Celsius. Leave for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven.

Use a butter knife and carefully try to pry the lens from the housing. If it is difficult to remove then put light back in oven for 2-3 minutes to soften the sealant a little more.

Job done.
