Advice on taking a car over from France with no MOT.

Ok so firstly, the car is a UK registered car which went over to France a few years ago with a friend of mine, I'm looking to buy the car off him and he's agreed to take it over on the ferry from calai to Dover. The car currently has no MOT or tax, I will have a transporter waiting at the port as close to the ferry as possible to take it straight off and onto the transporter. I've called the ferry company who weren't much help and I called the dvla who have told me that it will be fine to do but I just wanted to check to see if anyone has ever had any experience with doing this kind of thing before? Will it be ok to do or is there any chance they won't allow it off the ferry to go onto the transporter because it has no MOT/tax?

This is perhaps a silly question but I have no experience with ferries etc and wouldn't want to spend all the cash for it to get stopped at the port for what ever reason.

Any help appreciated.

Think it won't apply, as what happens with imports? If you are not driving it on a 'road' then it won't matter.

If in doubt have it booked in for an MOT on the day your moving it. Then cancel it when its on the truck (as long as the garage knows what you are doing). That's the legal way, you can drive to a garage with insurance but no tax/MOT as long as you have a MOT appointment booked that day.

thanks for the replies.

Have you tasted French prison food? ;) They haven't forgiven us for the Calais situation you know!

haha thats why i'm sending a transporting company and keeping 'safe' up in scotland :innocent:

I actually got in touch with someone who works at the port and has assured me it will be fine since it's getting driven straight onto a transporter, so hopefully all will be good.
