jot_ie
HI All In the ongoing saga of my (very slow) supra restoration I was looking at new seats. It turns out that my car may have been fitted with the optional recaro seats from the factory. Its a jspec tt 6speed vvti. I always thought they were aftermarket recaro seats. Is it the case that Toyota used recaro speeds as an option at the time, as mine look remarkably like them? Pic included. Apologies for the rubbish photo, but you get the idea More importantly can the be restored as they are in a sorrowful condition. I would love to get these restored in black leather, with new bolsters etc. John
j_jza80
They aren't the oem Recaros. They're a similar seat, but have the wrong covers. You can buy replacement foams from Capital seating.
mplavery
I remember someone telling me i don't have Factory Recaros too which i was strange even though that's what they came with from Japan and was told they were factory option when i bought the car .. I was told as the centre seatbelt cover was not covered in felt there not factory ?
j_jza80
I believe you're right about the seatbelt slots. These confetti type Recaros were oem fitment in other cars, and I believe you could buy them direct from Recaro too.

I've got OEM Recaros and rails in both my cars and the felt is a sure fire way of telling.
jot_ie
If that's the seat belt slot at the shoulder area of the seat you guys are talking about, mine are felt. I'm thinking they might be original and someone just removed the confetti fabric and covered it with grey leather.
Westy
Do yours have recline knobs on both sides or just the door side?
jot_ie
Do yours have recline knobs on both sides or just the door side? Had to run out to check. Recliner knobs door sides only.
Westy
Had to run out to check. Recliner knobs door sides only. Then they are OEM mate.
mwilkinson
Mine must be OEM too. Seat belt catches on door side only, felt centre sections and my seat belt chassis mount bolts have an extended plastic sheath type thing.
mplavery
Then they are OEM mate. I'm sure mine have knobs and seat tilt switch both sides .. Must of got them from Recaro then Why oh why did they choose Britsh railway design then pmsl Spose the one handy thing I can swap the seats round as the passenger one is feels brand new lol Edited March 15, 2016 by mplavery (see edit history)
herbiemercman
It was hard work and very fiddly but these are the best 2 mm thick high quality leather seats money can buy, IMHO, they also give your car that "new car" smell. 20151123_144302.jpg (176.3 KB) 20160114_140835.jpg (196.5 KB)
jot_ie
Had to run out to check. Recliner knobs door sides only. Well that's good news , kinda ..... as it leaves me with a bit of a decision. I was looking at new ones as the ones I have are in a sorry state, but now don't want to bin the oem ones. Any really good re-trimmers around. Thinking all black leather with some nice dark grey stitching and some detailing.
