ellis
I took the dash out yesterday to remove a few bits and change the heater controls and came upon this little box that has 2 wires coming out of it but the ends go nowhere. No real idea what it is but wondered if any of you boffins know what it is. Not the SLD is it? Whatever it is - should it connect to something? SWAMPY!!!!!! Wez
My first thoughts would be an SLD of some description.
ellis
Might explain my flashing OD Off light and TRC flashing too!! Swampy - get round here with a torch and some crimpers!

Wez
Does it have any other wires going to it, ie power? Stick a meter on the wires that are loose and see what you are getting when the car is off, running, or simply trace them back to see where they are joined to the loom, if its an SLD it will be cut into a speed signal. Chris Wilson
Speedo converter or SLD is my guess, too, trace the wires and get rid of it would be my approach and see what happens.

Judging by his bro's facebook I think he's already having loads of fun with wiring this weekend!
Ric
It looks like a power convertor for plasma speed dials. They have one power in and a few cables coming out? You say just 2 cables, but the connector next to your finger look like the same type of wires?
Rob_Mitchell
That was like that when we done the strip down, we thought it was weird too plus i have no idea what that board is all about lol.
Chris Wilson
I never cease to be amazed by how quickly someone can totally *$#~@ up a perfectly reliable, in fact compared to Ford and GM stuff, let me say an EXEMPLARY factory wiring harness, with a load of unneeded add on junk, added using Scotchlocks, choc blocks and random twisted wire and El Cheapo connectors. Nowadays I have fingers crossed when I pull the dash centre on a MKIV, fearing the worst as to what spaghetti I will find behind it. I have a car here now that had two turbo timers, two alarms and an unidentified gizmo that took hours to trace the wires to and from the front and rear of the car, only to discover they were chopped off at either end. ellis
I'll get a better pic of what's going into it and what's coming out. 2 wires in and 2 out from memory. Chris - none of my doing. I just turn the key and steer it! Edited March 14, 2016 by ellis (see edit history)
