The Raven
My mum has made her mind up at the age of 72 to buy herself her dream car. Downside is its not a supra, its an xk8 old school 90s version, i know nothing about them so any advise would be welcome.
tooquicktostop
Full service history, check for rust, take a good test drive and watch temps and for oil leaks , the straight 6 gives you the looks for far less hassle IMO
stevie_b
Lovely looking cars IMO. I think Dr Jekyll on here has owned one or two.
Chris Wilson
I know I come across as pessimistic about many cars, but just tell her to keep dreaming and keep her cash in her pocket or the bank. I cannot think of a much worse "classic" car to buy. Virtually every facet of them is a disaster waiting to happen. I have seen a few on a friend's ramp (he does a lot with Jags and is an MOT test station owner, too). To say the rust problems they have is appalling would be a gross understatement. All the other problems seem to be well documented via YouTube and Google searches, so I won't type hundreds of lines repeating them here. Havard
Dr Jekyll is the man to talk to as he has a soft spot for these. As Chris says, unless you know a good, cheap, mechanic with experience of these cars, I would stay well away. H.
j_jza80
Might be worth considering a Jap import one get one rust free, then have it fully waxoyled and undersealed. They do have mechanical and electrical gremlins too. But, they are really nice cars to drive in a wafty GT kind of way.

stevie_b
timing chain on them, lad at work had one, has an xkr now but he isnt here this week. Do you mean the timing chain on these is a weak point? Or that having a chain instead of a belt is inherently good/bad?
