Daston
Hi guys, After my pleasant surprise in finding most of the air intake to be clipped on, so unlike my old MkII MR2 (anyone here who’s tried working on one will know what I mean) I am toying on the idea of changing my air filter to a nice cone one. Now I am a total noob to all of this so first question, Will this make any difference as the rest of my car is a stock N/A? Second question is it just a matter of taking off the stock air filter and attaching a new one or do I need a new pipe as well? Third question how is it done and are there any DIY instructions?? Cheers
Paul -C-
Most people will tell you there is no reason to add an induction kit, other than the noise it makes. Some of them can be quite harmful too, letting a lot of crap into the engine!
Chris Wilson
My advice is to leave the stock set up entirely alone, it's well conceived and executed, none restrictive, and the stock paper element filter is far superior than most any aftermarket jobbies. Ony those running truly massive power (600 + BHP) need worry about the filter box, IMO. Money far better invested elsewhere (like several drums of petrol, or a cheap diesel shed, for when this "fuel crisis" gives us another winter of discontent

JohnA
Wow Chris, you sure put a damper on that one, didn't you. What next, knock down dump valves for N/A cars? (don't laugh, the number of times I've had to respond to this...) How about exhaust backboxes that create a vacuum (or is it vortex?) that *sucks out* the exh gases, giving you a surge of power? Are these rubbish too? [He he...nice to see there are others calling overpriced, overhyped, performance downgrades for what they are...]
