Sharpie
I just found these photo's of the damage done to my NEW (3 days old) tyres. From this: http://home.btconnect.com/mkivsupra/Bovingdon/New%20rubber.JPG Add a couple of hours fun on the track section pushing the car sideways.... To this: http://home.btconnect.com/mkivsupra/Bovingdon/Hmmm.JPG http://home.btconnect.com/mkivsupra/Bovingdon/hmmm2.JPG But what FUN The surface was harsh! Bobbeh
Thats terrible! For the money you'd save on tyres you could pay for a propper track day!
attilauk
thats exactly the reason why i dont do airfield days...
Alex
Looks like they got very hot and that surface was too abrasive.. Glad you enjoyed yourself but next time you want to go sideways I'd recommend getting some cheap non branded tyres!!! Bet the ride home was interesting. michael
New tyres and trackdays are a bad combo, the extra tread means they generate even more heat than normal - part worns are the way forward

Yeah, that's what I thought too! Wife not too happy at another £400 for rubber. ride home was taken very easy My tyres were in fine shape going up and down the drag section for most of the day, I checked them before I entered the track area....the last couple of hours on the track did this - More confidence + pushing harder and harder.... Ben-san
SANTA MARIA! Your poor unsuspecting Eagle F1's... pwned! Didn't go on track m'self, after seeing the surface. £400? That's good going pete, where from? Haven't seen F1's for under £110 anywhere.
Chris Wilson
You will save A lot of money by buying a set of 17 inch rims and running proper road legal track tyres on them. The car will be potentially 3 seconds a lap quicker round somewhere like Oulton, too. Road tyres are FAR FAR FAR too soft a compound for that sort of thing

Looking at Dunlop Formula R D01J's are £201 ea. for the rear and £173 ea up front. Total £748 (With one search on the web) http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b252s666p0
how_supra
I think the intention is, is to get someone down there with part worns for next time. That way swap your tyres around on the day and everything.
terribleturner
Pete that's bad. Did you see mine?? Think i have a picture somewhere where they were falling apart But as Sabrina has said, if we do it again i'm thinking of doing a tyre package on the day. Pay in advance and when you turn up you get a set/pair of part worn tyres (Top makes) fitted and then swopped back. That's unless this other place doesn't work out
