£9m of our money spent on trying to get their own way (still without facts according to reports today) is to me incredible. Thank god we are in a "period of austerity" as who knows how much they would have spent otherwise..

This 100% should not have been funded this way, I like the idea that everyone writes return to sender (10 downing street) and dumps it in a postbox :D

Talking of official documents reminded me of something. A left leaning friend of mine sent me the attached with great mirth, upon reading of Cameron's response to questions of his family's monetary affairs. He believes Cameron has set a precedent as to what information needs to be made available now. I had to laugh!

Seventy nine illegal migrants are now on a boat back to Turkey from the Greek island of Lesbos, after 25 Pakistanis were transferred back the other day. 79!! Utterly pitiful.

The newspaper this morning cited an interview with an illegal migrant in a German hostel. This migrant claimed most there had homes back from where they came from, and were there for purely economic reasons and to get free medical attention. They could return any time they wanted if the free money ran out in Europe. Exactly what I have said from the get go, most are economic migrants and probably many saying they are from war torn parts of Syria are actually from God knows where in reality....

human rights is a UN policy not an EU one.....but we should still get out

Technically not true.

Human rights is a policy of every country, and our human rights acts are upheld by the European court of human rights.

The European court of human rights ha nothing to do with the EU though.

It would be all but impossible to leave the auspices of the ECHR without us first leaving he EU. But I take comfort in that if the referendum is fiddled in some way for us to remain the EU is in its death throws, both politically and financially, so whatever the result it will fairly soon be irrelevant.

OUT.

I also believe that the EU is on it's way out, regardless of the result of the UK referendum.

It's odd, wherever I read comments online the vast majority appear to want to leave the EU, yet the results of the various 'official' polls usually show the remain side as ahead. Very suspect.

I don't doubt that it is close run in the polls, but the main issue will come down to who actually goes out and votes. Not only are the Leavers much more committed overall than remainers, but they also have an enormous demographic advantage. ie, the old vote, and are pro Brexit. The young don't vote, and are pro EU.

I read the other day that the polls would need to consistently show a 10+ point lead for the remain vote to even match the leave vote because of this. If that is true, I just don't see how they can make up that gap.

Angela Merkel has won the international “Four Freedoms Award” in 2016 for her moral leadership of Germany and Europe during the refugee crisis :-

https://global.handelsblatt.com/breaking/chancellor-angela-merkel-wins-roosevelt-four-freedoms-award

Presumably they didn't factor in the many hundreds, if not thousands who have either drowned or been forced into slavery because of her open invitation? Or the victims of the mass sexual assaults on new years eve?

Then again, they gave Obama a Nobel peace prize. The same man who's responsible for the biggest drone programme in history, and subsequent civilian deaths, targeted assassinations across the world, and keeping Guantanamo open long after he said he would close it.

Maybe Putin or Netanyahu will get one next :D

The Eurozone is accelerating its growth, and there is no other major economy in the world which can say the same. Demand for the Euro has rarely been higher.

I'm going to be seriously pee'd off if we go back to under 1.20 to the GBP. No doubt it'll happen thanks to our inept politicians and the UK eurosceptics.

Things are heating up at the Macedonian boarder as the illegal invaders decide to try and breach the fence:

I guess it's the only place to stop them. The Greeks aren't even trying to stop them as there are just too many ways across through their land?

Some well considered and balanced comments on that news post.

The one thing that all Muslims understand is Death. In situations like this, we should accommodate them.

Yes I feel the same and it is a concern. But, I also feel so strongly now that we should take this opportunity to get out then if that's a price we have to pay for a while then so be it. I am so irritated with all the spin for the remain camp, Jeez they have even wheeled out the King Spin Campbell now trying to create even more fear suggesting IS want us to leave. Worryingly there are people out there who will only look at snippets of info like this and make their decision based on this type of scaremongering. Its a shame that the good speakers for the out vote like Farrage seem to be getting so little airtime and media coverage in all this.

What are peoples feelings on Obama's speech then? Will it galvanise the nation into supporting the remain vote or will it p*.*s people off so much that he is meddling in our affairs and most likely asked to by Cameron and his mates that it has the reverse effect that they were hoping for?

So wonder if we did leave just how far the queue would be to us if he needed our support or we had something that they needed and couldn't get it elsewhere?

I also found interesting one analyst on the TV today noting that he used the word "queue", feeling that it would be out of context for most americans and they word normally say "back of the line".
