Hi All,

Been lurking on here for a while but finally decided to take the plunge.

Currently a very happy owner of a fiesta ST but I'm getting to that point where I want to take care of a car "itch" with a aerotop being said "itch".

Engine wise while I would love a TT but I'm machanically inept and I'm assuming a n/a has less to go wrong then the turbo counterpart.

Ideally I'd like a nice clean standard example (any colour bar green) that just needs the odd bit of work here and there (not by me) and a regular service etc.

Now I know this is probably the million dollar question but am I better off trawling the net for said car or looking into getting one imported? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also I've seen one on eBay which could need a bit of work, is a supra something a standard mechanic can work on or need more specialist skills to look after it?

Sorry for babbling on but got lots of thoughts on this and trying to get the tops ones answered.

Thanks,

Shane

Hi and welcome to the club. The best advice I got was look beyond the shiny paint work and bling wheels, look at service history and get it up on a ramp. These cars are old now and things like suspension arms will need replacing which are not cheap. These cars are bullet proof if looked after properly but when things do go wrong they tend to be expensive. Do you have contingency money ? Think beyond the purchase price, do you have money spare should something go wrong ? Regarding working on them, basic servicing any garage should be able to do but anything to do with the turbo system or similar really needs someone who knows what they are doing.

There is a guide on here on what to look at when buying, if you pay your membership it would open up our classifieds. But don't think that because it's a members car it will be fault free but what the club does bring is history. It's more than likely someone will have seen or know about the car.

Your budget will be the deciding factor on what you get really, what is your budget ?

Thanks for the replies guys.

With regards to budget, was thinking £3-4K for the car plus roughly the same making sure it's up to scratch (that's without money for wheels and shiny paint ;) ).

I'm based in Southampton and found a garage on here to too far from me so that puts me at ease for finding someone for any work needed.

Well speaking about finding one, there is a aerotop on eBay atm. If anyone knows anything about it.......

Welcome to the forum :)

Is this the one you are talking about on ebay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-SUPRA-MKIV-N-A-AUTO-AEROTOP-TARGA-TOP-CONVERTIBLE-SPORTS-COUPE-/252295949294?hash=item3abe02abee:g:0b4AAOSwG-1WyuJp

I don't know any information on that Supra, maybe other members might know it.

With £3 - 4k budget you probably will be looking only at the N/A specs

thanks for the offer ripped, I work at b&q head office so may take you up on the offer.

Yes it was the red one, ticked most of the boxes at this early stage but the owner being banned puts me off a little.

The blue one on eBay is a little too loud for me, looking for something a bit more standard.
