MATT RR
What was the orginal cost of the tattoo? It was about 10-12 years ago and I agreed a fixed price of £250 as part of a promo, which was very cheap for the size, its a basic design and took 8 hours in total to finish! They regretted the fixed cost as they totally underestimated the time it would take!
Jamesy
After seeing many laser removals on TV, I would not, for anything and even if free, go through it. As said id rather have some kind of coverup, and with it being on your back at least its not viable for the main part so perhaps think carefully before undergoing such painful and costly removal. I appreciate your advice mate, I will be taking my time and thinking carefully. I'm in no rush dont worry, hence the thread as I want to get an idea of peoples personal experiences. However im 100% sure i wont be having any more tattooing done, even for a cover up, its either put up with it as is or get rid............got another consultation for removal next week so that may help me decide, still got lots of questions for them! MATT RR
I haven't had a tattoo removed but I had the same style of laser used on my back to get rid of an area of darkly pigmented skin. It was about the size of an A5 piece of paper, and it hurt like ****. I had a full session every 2 months for just over a year and then a less powerful laser once a month for another 6. If you're looking into pain relief, there's a product called 'Emla Cream' which numbs your skin. I found it quite effective but had to leave it on for much longer than the box instructs. I used 2x5mg tubes for each session and covered the whole area with clingfilm (same as if you were to after you'd had a tattoo). Just stops it from rubbing off. I left it on for about 1 1/2 hours on the way from St. Ives to Exeter (where the hospital was) and then took it off just before the laser treatment. Didn't entirely stop the pain but it went from feeling like I was being stung by a Bee 2000 times to just being poked with a needle 2000 times. (2000 was the rough amount of flashes from the laser each time). It worked though. And after the best thing was Bio Oil. Probably cheapest from Amazon. It's not a great picture, taken on a really old camera phone, but you get the idea of what it looked like the day after each session. Kinda looks like an upside down Australia.. or North America. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=209313&d=1456083916 I had the 2nd patch test today at a different clinic and used the Emla cream you suggested (thumbs) .....what a difference! It was id say around half the pain, totally bareable so ive booked to have a full 1st session later this month! Its turns out I know the person doing it so ive got mates rates of £80 per session which for the size of my tattoo is great and much better value than the other place, so it should be gone in around a year and a half given the recovery time per session. They think up to 12 sessions to remove. Not only good value but this place are a much more proffessional set up in every way from the staff, premises to the equiptment so im feeling confident

Guest akkachi
Hey Matt, have you gone for your the 1st session. How was it? I'm planning to go for a laser tattoo removal from Fairview Laser clinic in my locality (Toronto). I got tattooed 2 years back on my right hand from US. It was my best friends hen party and all the girls over got tattooed but now I want to remove it as I feel it doesn't look good. I have seen many laser tattoo removal pics and got scared. The first thing I had checked in their website was the pics ( http://www.fairviewcosmeticsurgery.com/photo-gallery/laser-tattoo-removal/ ) and I was happy as the pics didn't scare me. Lol.. I have scheduled for my initial consultation on 11th April and I'm eagerly waiting for the day. I'm still worried about the procedure. I know the result will be different for everyone and that makes me more depressed.

My main advice would be go to a few places for consultation, and pick one you like, is professional, you feel comfortable at etc! The 1st place I went to put me right off, but the next one was fantastic and I booked my first session straight after. As for how it went it was fine, however I did use the EMLA cream mentioned in this thread earlier and dropped some pain killers with coffee before hand (caffeine helps circulate the pain killers round the body, yes I’m a wimp). I found the lazering (from the test patch on 1st consultation) too painful without the numbing cream due to the size of my tattoo and the time/amount of lazering per session it would take, in addition a lot of it is on my spine so not the best place pain wise . Anyway I had the entire tattoo lazered for the 1st of probably 12 sessions staggered every 6-8 weeks, the pain was minimal if you can even call it pain, more just uncomfortable due to the EMLA cream and pain killers I guess. It’s going to take a while, probably over a year and a half, but I hate the tattoo now so instead of hating it for the rest of my life I look at it like I only have to put up with it for 1-2 years max With the EMLA cream, if you end up using it, apply it thick 2 hours minimum before, cover with Clingfilm and use medical tape to keep it in place, if it all soaks in after an hour maybe top up with some more, it honestly made the whole process easy. If you don’t use anything then good on you, you’re much tougher than I am! As you probably know the lazer doesn’t remove the ink, it just breaks it down so your body can remove it via your blood stream over time, hence why results take a long time with this, but I am 100% convinced for me, it will be worth it! Hope this helps!

jim
I had a chat to my tattoo guy about it last week, he said that it was a little more painful than getting tattoo'd, but was a quicker process so the pain was over a shorter space of time. My tattoo sessions have generally been 5 or 6 hours each time and the one I want to remove should only need a 40 minute session (or two). He also said I'd need to wait 12 weeks before tattoo'ing over the lasered one. I got the top of my red arm done last week, bottom half is battle of the planets, top bit is a 70's Japanese cartoon called ufo robot grandizer

It is such an artform, been watching tattoo fixers a lot recently and cant believe how they can produce such detail on skin with a needle and some ink! jim
Agree, it's one thing being able to draw but to transfer that skill to using a needle on skin is a real talent.
