Strange noise from power steering pump

If you're there tomorrow I'll have a look. It could be the bearings. However, there will be a proper whining noise if the pump is having to work really hard to get the fluid through the filter/reservoir. It's a common issue and easily replicated by turning the wheel full lock.

Of course the noise will come from the pulley, its linked to the power steering pump, the noise will get worse over a few days. Usually this is cured by changing your power steering fluid, you need 8mm and 16mm hose and 2L of ATF fluid

Went down to our local auto spares, not a halfords or anything like that. Got some water hose cut to lenght, it was a while back, only a few quid. You can just take it to toyota or a trusted garage to do it, 1-2hr jobbie including cleaning up :D

Ok thanks. Will have a look around the local area to see if I can get some.

no worries get about 2 meters each, and youll need a bucket and a 2l coke bottle + tape.

Got everything else so hopefully won't be too much hassle. Did you clean the reservoir out too? I had a look at it a month or so ago and seems a bit of a pain to remove. Unless it's easier to clean out mounted in position of course. That bit is not in the guide so a bit unsure

No, you just need to lower the level a little as i remember for some reason. That soarer post will explain it. Then top it up with new stuff to flush all the old stuff out, just lock the steering harder than normal to make sure all the old crap is purged out of the chambers. I check mine now and then and its all still clean.

The only thing you need to remove is the cap and hoses :D

You should clean the filter before you change the fluid too, i did this by running my largest flat bladed screwdriver over the filter mesh very lightly (too much pressure could tear the mesh). It took off the gunk stuck to the top of it and then i ran the new fluid in and my noise stopped.
