Nic
2016 F1, now with added screamer pipes. I don't really understand how it'll make the cars any louder, last year the wastegates recirculated into a single exhaust pipe (with no silencer), this year they are vented through 1 or 2 separate screamer pipes. First testing in Barcelona starts Monday. [video=youtube;UExqnh-Qjw8]
Style
Everyone is going to start looking ahead to the 2018 season again with the rules and regs being shaken up for that. But I'm interested to see how much more competitive it's going to be this year, really don't think (hope!) Mercedes will walk it this year. Alex_GT
Does anyone else think the cars have looked really weird since the FIA changed the rules in 1998? I don't mean from the point of view of aerodynamic parts, but from the length to width ratio. It's not so noticeable when the cars are going at speed but when they are stopped and you see an aerial view they look fucking ridiculous. The width of the car is about a third of its length, I understand that the FIA wanted to slow the cars by making them narrower but they ended up being faster than ever anyway, yet they kept the rules as such so they still look like complete shit. Agree they look far too long and narrow but that is mainly down to frontal impact protection for the drivers, back then the drivers feet were in the nose cone of the car, now they are behind the front axle. There are rule changes being discussed about making the cars wider but this'll just make overtaking harder.
Swampy442
Ive looked forward to this thread for a while Twin screamer pipes is the FIA mandated noise improvement scheme. We all know that once turbos are involved noise is a moot point. New Williams looks shit hot by the way. And Ill say as an ex McLaren employee, watch out for them next season
Nic
New qualifying elimination rules being considered for the 2016 season. Very complicated to manage and follow but could potentially shake up the starting grid. http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/headlines/2016/2/f1-set-for-new-elimination-style-qualifying-format.html Q1 - 16 minutes - After 7 minutes, slowest driver eliminated - Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag - 7 drivers eliminated, 15 progress to Q2 Q2 - 15 minutes - After 6 minutes, slowest driver eliminated - Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag - 7 drivers eliminated, 8 progress to Q3 Q3 - 14 minutes - Ater 5 minutes, slowest driver eliminated - Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag - 2 drivers left in final 1 minute 30 seconds In each session, the final elimination will occur at the chequered flag, rather than when the time is up. Interesting idea to shake things up and would definitely catch people out. Can't help but think it'll be chaos though. Annabella
Bit strong. Yes looking forward as always. Pity BBC has lost it to CH4 though, but they say they'll broadcast without ads. Can't believe the masses are going to miss the Aussie gp though, as that usually is one of the best races of the season. (only on sky for peeps that dont know, highlights obviously on CH4)

BoGlE
Personally, I don't like it. Ruins the look of the car for the 1 in a million chance of it being needed. Although I'm not risking my life driving soo. Hamilton hates it though and that's enough for me

Nic
The new elimination qualifying format will be implemented this season, I can see it being very chaotic with everyone wanting to be on the same bit of track at the same time. http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/headlines/2016/3/fia-approves-new-elimination-style-qualifying-format.html

Pete
How are we watching the F1 this year? Did I hear BBC have dropped it?
Swampy442
Sky for me, the BBC opted to drop it, probably to fund some more cooking shows or singing garbage so now its on C4, with a huge commentary team including Murray Walker! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/123162
