Chris Wilson
I had thought that there would be less serious tuning stuff available for old RWD Volvos than there was 15 years ago, but no, there are some very tasty bits and pieces available How about a special LSD that takes thicker half shafts than the weak stock ones, and with a vast choice of preloads and ramp angles? or a kit to have fully floating half shafts so they see no suspension loads, only torque loads? Motorsport blocks that enable a 3.2 litre 4 cylinder build based on what was originally a 2 litre engine? (Cast by Grainger and Worall here in the UK, in special high strength iron). I MUST RESIST, burn the debit card!

mc92
I want a 240 estate with some big obnoxious engine swap. It would be a fun sleeper while still having all that space to cart around my rubbish.
Hitbox Junkie
dont people drop 2jz or big ls V8s into the old volvo's
MattP
dont people drop 2jz or big ls V8s into the old volvo's All the Bjork videos of that Volvo with a 2JZ in it are rather amusing.
Jarek
Old 740's 2,4 hpt are a good base to start .I think
Digsy
(Cast by Grainger and Worall here in the UK, in special high strength iron). G&W turn out some cracking stuff. Always spot something interesting on the shop floor if I pop over there.
ianhid
A proper Swedish racing brick is high on my list of wants. That list does not make life easier
CASHEYE
I just bought a Volvo 960 estate. 2.3 turbo, 149k, immaculate leather interior, incredibly straight body... £350. Picking it up on Thursday and I can't freakin wait.
Chris Wilson
Year? Manual or auto? Great cars, great engine. Is it the low pressure turbo or high pressure turbo model? Want it to go faster ?
Axl
960's with the v6 were my favourite
Chris Wilson
The *V6* ????? The Volvo one was a terrible engine, the very last of the PRV V6's used in the last of the Renault Alpine GTA's was a bit better, but still a lemon. Liners moved, head gaskets blew, the valve train went noisy through cam and follower wear. Light but dreadful
Axl
The one I had ran sweet it was comfy and I went all over the country in it i then had a 740 turbo which was also enjoyable but when I bought a c70 2.4turbo I vowed never to have another volvo as long I live
Chris Wilson
I had the Renault version of the PRV V6 (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) is an Alpine GTA, in N/A form and it too was fine, but I guess we were lucky, generally speaking they were notorious for dropped liners and head gasket issues. Fixing it was engine out and a TOTAL strip down to the bare block. They were a VERY light engine though, and in GTA Turbo format and in the ultra rare Venturi 400GTR and 600LM cars was developed to give a lot of grunt. The late even fire engines are considered a much better unit and it is said Alfa Romeo used them as the basis for the 155 GTA engine used in Touring Car Racing, albeit vastly modified. They claimed it was a Montreal V8 with two cylinders deleted, but those in the know considered they plagiarised the PRV V6 as they hadn't the money for a one off V6 development programme. Chris Wilson
Why the hell Volvo didn't stick closer to the stunning 2 door V90 estate car concept I don't know. The release version is 4 doors, and doesn't seem to have any more load space headroom than the concept car. Not that i am that interested as they are now a dedicated front wheel drive company, with a sap to 4 WD with the iffy Haldex stuff.
CASHEYE
Year? Manual or auto? Great cars, great engine. Is it the low pressure turbo or high pressure turbo model? CASHEYE
I've read that putting a less restrictive exhaust on it would help but I can't find anywhere that sells anything aftermarket for the car. What kind of upgrades would give the best price for performance increases?
Chris Wilson
Raise the boost with either a boost controller or a stronger wastegate capsule. You can buy chips for the ECU i think, to have different fuelling and ignition curves. You can get different cams, hell you can get EVERYTHING right up to 425 BHP naturally aspirated, at a price. But bear in mind the engine is already tired, so take it easy. You may have to get a custom exhaust made. It already will have the better turbo manifold. You can bolt bigger turbos from other Volvos to it... I am aiming for 400 real BHP at the flywheel, but mine has a stroker crank, different rods and different pistons to take it to 2.8 litres. With more boost I could make a LOT more, but I want TORQUE with a capital T. It should make 400 BHP at well under 1 bar boost
