lewysdanny
Has any of you had any experience of either 12 reg Mercedes c63amg or 11 reg Jaguar xkr 5.0 . The reason I ask is I have the chance of one for a good price , but as I,ve never previously owned either one would appreciate any imput from any forum member that has . Cheers guys
j_jza80
That's a tough one. Both great, but very different cars. The SL is the nearest thing Merc do to an XK. I'd probably take the Jag. They are great looking cars, big supercharged lump is full of character. Similar kind of car to the Supra. I've not driven the C63, but it is a fantastic looking car. And that engine is a masterpiece.
Scott
You will need to excuse my ignorance here when I stick my bit in...... I do not know the value being mentioned here as it's WAY outwith my means. I would only ask that you check the price of an F-Type as I would take one of those over an XKR and the C63 without question. Not sure if that's the sort of thing that you would look into, or if it's even in the ballpark figure, but I am in absolute AWE with the top end F-Type Coupe's. tooquicktostop
I have driven both and the C63 is an amazing engine but it is a handful and I think the merc TC has a lot of fudging to do to keep it straight, the jag sounds wonderful and I love the interior but the depreciation is high, I have just purchased an S500 and love it I have never had such luxury for so little money, 2995 for a LOT of car on a 2003 plate which was the last of the nice looking S series IMO

I've driven both The XK is a GT, the F type feels Z4 ish in size. Very capable car, a great looking and sounding car, but very impractical (the boot is tiny) Looks wise, I slightly prefer the last of the XK's. http://www.motortrader.com.my/images/new_cars/jaguar/xk/Jaguar%20XKR%20Coupe.jpg They have released a manual version of the F Type now which may swing it for some. lewysdanny
The F-Type is possibly the most beautiful car on the market right now . The problem is the 5.0 F-Type Coupe is still around £60k - £75k for a well looked after car ........ outer my budget by many many Ks . I took a 510 BHP XKR on a test drive with Stratstone Jaguar and that was a real eye opener.

I've not driven the XK, but I've seen it...... that picture is VERY flattering. The F-Type, as said, is one of the most stunning cars on the road right now period. I may be a bit looks over utility here but I would never spend such money on something I expected to be able to go camping in. I could use my 4th car with the Chauffeur for that

After getting back to the showroom from my XKR 5.0 test drive the salesman asked me to wait over by the demo 5.0 F-TYPE . When he came back he had the key , started it up and revved the throttle a touch ...... thought my ears were going to pop , but could not let me have a drive as the next pilot was in the showroom about to come out for his F - TYPE demo !!!!!! j_jza80
They look great from most angles http://www.jaguarusa.com/Images/xk_012_058_US_redxkconvertible_topview-device_desktop-1366x625_tcm97-29137_desktop_1366x625.jpg?v=1 The earlier ones did look awkward from some angles, but the very late ones were spot on IMO. The resemblence with the Aston DB7 is apparent (designed by the same person ) The F-Type is a lot of fun. The launch control is grin inducing
j_jza80
Coincidentally, I was at my fabricators today, and he was making a catback straight through system for a 4.2 XKR with no silencers... sadly I had to go before he was finished. lewysdanny
Put a search up the other day for exhaust notes of the xkr with various makes of straight through,s .......... amazing !!!!!
j_jza80
Personal choice and all that It is surprising though, as they do superficially resemble the Supra. I think you'd warm to them if you drove one, they have much more character than an equivalent 6 series or SL. And Jags have a habit of getting better looking with age. Frank Bullitt
Is this the reason you are getting rid of your Supra?
lewysdanny
Yeah my Supe is a cracking car and its my third one . But its in such good shape that since my truck accident my son has to keep it in top fettle , and as he is 37 with his own family, his time, washing , polishing , and keeping it in its current condition is getting too much . So I think its time to sell and get something a bit newer that needs less attention .
Frank Bullitt
Why not keep your Supra and spend the money on that, that you are looking to spend on a Merc or Jag? You would get more performance than both of those could offer, reliability, cheaper running costs should something go awry, no devaluation, a car that isn't common... just a thought
lewysdanny
I get the way you,re thinking but, I physically cant do the maintenance that I have always done . So I need a car that needs less attention while can still offer performance and style in buckets just like the Supra. If I miss out on the deal I,ve already been offered , its no hardship to keep my Aerotop and put it into storage .

Havard
They are both mental, expensive cars and there are neither I would want to own. What is your budget? There are loads of cars that will be in that kind of bracket and more fun to drive. I'd be looking at a 911 or 6 Series BMW. H.
ozz
I'd go Jag, I was tempted for a white 11 plate XK as I was sick of waiting for the Mustang but decided to stick with it. Porsche are superb but I actually think they aren't as special as the Jag - I was in London last month and every street had some form of 911, I only saw one Jag and it was stunning. My Cayman felt like a ticking bomb waiting for something to go wrong. I've no idea on Jag reliability though.
lewysdanny
The trouble is I have owned 2 911s an old school 3.2 coupe, and the 911 964 c2 3.6 convertible . Both were money pits and not at all quick. My present budget is £30k-£40k .
lewysdanny
I,ve just been looking at the Maserati Granturismo 4.3 , but again , no idea of the pro,s and con,s of this mark , but has the looks .
j_jza80
What about an Evora? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/evora/2013-lotus-evora-v6-s-345-bhp-2-0-sports-racer-and-tech-packs/4021094?v=b
ripped_fear
If I have to choose out of those two it would have to be the Jag. Lovely cars but TBH I wouldnt want to part with that much money for one mainly due to the running costs and depreciation.
