Fuel tank straps problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Was removing my fuel tank cover a little while ago, after I got it off I noticed the bolt that holds on the fuel tank strap wasn't quite tight, done it up and then "Snap" !!!

the bolt has snapped and is half in the thread still but kind of loose, I think what it screws into has broke....

Anyway......

Can I drill a new hole close to the original and put a nut and bolt through it ?

Is it ok to drill that piece of metal ?

Does it go through into the boot area to be able to thread a nut on the bolt ?

If not, anyone got any suggestions ?

Many thanks

Hi AndyJax,

Thanks for getting back to me, I thought I would have had more advise, but nothing apart from you !

You are exactly correct !

I was unable to gain access to the other side of the bolt, so I went ahead and drilled another hole close to it and inserted a self tapping bolt which worked with the strap.

Thanks again
