linconhawk
Hi all, Was removing my fuel tank cover a little while ago, after I got it off I noticed the bolt that holds on the fuel tank strap wasn't quite tight, done it up and then "Snap" !!! the bolt has snapped and is half in the thread still but kind of loose, I think what it screws into has broke.... Anyway...... Can I drill a new hole close to the original and put a nut and bolt through it ? Is it ok to drill that piece of metal ? Does it go through into the boot area to be able to thread a nut on the bolt ? If not, anyone got any suggestions ? Many thanks
inazone
If you can might be worth taking a few pictures and posting them up.
linconhawk
Ok, just been out and taken one... It shows the original bolt in place, but this will not come out and is loose.....
AndyJax
Sounds as though the nut behind the bolt has broken its weld and is now spinning freely.I'm not sure if you can gain access to the loose nut or whatever to hold it with a spanner or grips to undo the bolt. linconhawk
Hi AndyJax, Thanks for getting back to me, I thought I would have had more advise, but nothing apart from you ! You are exactly correct ! I was unable to gain access to the other side of the bolt, so I went ahead and drilled another hole close to it and inserted a self tapping bolt which worked with the strap. Thanks again
