  • 3 weeks later...

Marcin mucha in dundee (mac motorsport) should be able to help with this! Tell him i sent ya ;) hes done many bmw box conversions. Does all sorts of work rwd style, he can stick a 2jz in almost any rwd car, i know its not the hardest thing in the world but he definitely has alot of experience in doing so.. Maybe a chat with him could help you.

Ooh just had a cheeky read and very interesting stuff. Would like to see how the m3 box compares to the supra box. Can they handle comparable levels of power? And 330d box? Really that bomb proof! That's impressive if they are!

They don't! 2.47 on 330d vs 3.6 on the supra big case diff.

They're fine if you like doing a ton at 2k and not having the power to pull the skin off a rice pudding in anything other than 1st.

I just revisited this thread and realised you have this the wrong way round. A 330D gearbox mated to even the lowest ratio Supra diff would be the equivalent of having the V160 without 6th gear. It would be revving like hell at a given road speed.

Could you not just put a different diff in that would be well suited to the boxes ratios?

Would this be better for a track car where the stock top speed is well over the top for most circuits?

Wez: You would need to do the calcs based on tyre circumference, gearbox ratios and diff ratio, versus desired max engine RPM, and see if the top gear gave a suitably high top speed for wherever.

Stock MKIV 17" tyre sizes, large 6 speed diff or small NA auto diff, as for RPM I am guessing 5000rpm for the 3UZ-FE :D
