MattP
Has anyone on here stripped a Sipra alternator in order to polish or powder coat the casing or should this not be done? I have seen polished casings and assume they must have been stripped or the insides would look a mess. I also found a guide for mk3 Supra alternator strip downs are they relatively the same? Chris Wilson
No reason not to strip one, I have done several. For electrical refurb, not polishing though. I'd put new front and rear bearings in it, and brushes, too, unless the slip rings are knackered, then you have a problem... The shop manual has the strip down routine, but it's pretty self evident. Make sure you lock the brushes back when you reassemble it, using a rivet or paper clip.
