Audio Setup

I would get the RCA cables from wherever you buy the amp. I would factor in £30-£40 for them. This is a really important part of the setup regarding sound quality to your new speakers. Something along these lines is what I would look at.....

Awesome what about other cabling like the leads to the speakers them selves and im guessing an earth and one to the battery.

If you're only planning on running 1 amp then 8awg will be fine for both your battery cable and earth cable. You want OFC cable regardless of what thickness you go for. You will need at least 5m of battery cable, I'd recommend getting 6 to allow for proper tucking etc.

If you want to run 2 amps then you'll need at least 4awg, I would probably recommend 2awg or even 0awg if you're planning a large mono amp.

You can get a little crazy with wiring, there's cheap ways to do it and there's expensive ways to do it. Unfortunately, as with everything, you get what you pay for. There are SO many companies now selling copper coated aluminium wire that it's scandalous. You REALLY want to be using OFC wire for everything, but as with anything you'll pay for the privilege.

So...... with all of that in mind, here is what I would recommend.....

14m of 14awg (2.5mm) OFC copper wire for the speakers

6m of 8awg (8mm) OFC red copper wire for the battery positive (I would ask these guys if they could supply 6m rather than 5).

2m of 8awg (8mm) OFC black copper wire for the earth (Rear seat is a good earth location, sits approx 1-1.5m from where you will have the amp so 2m is plenty). This is really good stuff. If you're feeling flush you could get the power cable as this stuff too. It's excellent and worth the money.

5m of 18awg (0.8mm) any old crap blue copper wire for the remote

Thanks for the in depth guide. Think I will go with getting all the cables this month along with the amp, wire it to the pioneer speakers, them swap them out, then when funds allow get the pioneer head unit I like

I hate threads like this. I've just sat and specced up a whole new install for myself now :(

1400 bloody quid. Anyone want to buy a boot install :D

Sorry :D If the amp is a 4 channel then maybe ;)

I've always used JBL stuff. Just bought a JBL Mono amp to drive my 8" JBL sub in the Van. Always good quality and not ridiculous money either.

Not a company I have used myself. Their stuff ok then?

Cheers Scott

I'm due a phone upgrade soon and was thinking about going back to Android. So will look into the features of ARUnchained :)

Phone needs to be rooted for ARUnchained etc so it may be an idea to get a 2nd phone just for the Supra. Depends if you're comfortable with rooting a brand new phone or not :D

Appradio itself works just fine with either the iPhone or an Android phone, it's just limited as you would expect :D

JBL have been around for decades. All the big boys used to swap the Celestion's out of the Marshall cabs and replace with JBL's back in the day.

I once went bonkers on my Saab 9000. 4.5 comps and 5.25 comps in the front 5.25 comps in the rear, 6x9's in the shelf and twin 10" suns in a box in the boot. All JBL GTO series parts. I used 0awg gauge to 4-way power and ground splitters and then 4 awg to the 2 600w Jensen 6 channel amps, OFC RCA and Speaker cable and all gold plated connectors. It sounded awesome, in fact it's the reason I'm a bit mutton. :D
