Brian888
Hi all, quick query about an autobox. Mine has an increasingly violent jerk in to 'drive' when it's a cold start. Seems to get ok once driven for a while. Is this normal and just because it's cold, fluid hasn't circulated etc? There doesn't seem to be any other issues. The fluid level is fine and still good colour. Thanks.
Marcus GTE
Are you pressing the foot brake, selecting drive and then releasing the brake?
Brian888
Yup.
Mk4Gaz
Probably because the engine is revving much higher than a hot idle, that it feels jerky like you say
Marcus GTE
Can't say mine does a violent jerk that you mention. Perhaps the revs would be slightly higher if it's a cold morning? Resulting in the same effect if you pressed the accelerator slightly. ^above post just seen
Brian888
Hmm ok thanks maybe some more investigation required.
David P
As above, cold start revs and cold fluid can cause this when changing from P to D. You will find that pausing in R for half a second will avoid this.
Brian888
Cheers I'll give it a go, although I have noticed cold start revs are initially close to 1400. Seems a little high which could be contributing to the problem?
David P
N/A's do that.
X13mgr
I always pause for a second between changes and make sure I'm stationary before changing from R to D. Also OCD about letting car warm up before driving.
Brian888
Sorry should of said, its an import TT running BPU. Settles down OK to 700-800 but just initially up to 1400.
