TLicense Posted April 6, 2003 Share Posted April 6, 2003 All, I've got a strange tapping noise coming from the bottom near side rear corner of the engine bayon my '93 Jap Auto TT. It picks up with revs and is unrelated to speed. Obviously something is knackered (if it's making a noise already then it's already shafted) but I'm struggling to see what. I don't think it's the big end bearings because they would tend to rattle when the engine went from torque in one direction to torque in the other (ie the "zero torque" condition for want of a better description). Is the oil pump around that area? Could that knock if it was on it's way out? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Not sure what your noise is in that area, but remember noises in engine bays can be very misleading. Oh and BTW i'm Martin, and i also own a Supra. Instead of wearing some dorky namebadge or having a special numberplate made up ("Hey, that must be John Smiths car, but which one of those people is John Smith? Perhaps he's actually nowhere near his car!"), people could get a T-shirt printed with their signature "quote" on it.
