peter richards
i only use the supra now and again last year drove it 3 times , been with admiral for years , car is always sornd for winter and is in a garage 100% . but trying to get anywhere with these companies is frustrating , surely the fact that its only taxed for 6 months where i could drive it makes me 50% less chance of having an accident than someone using the car everyday. renewals just come in at £193 im 53 and max ncd thoughts please guys not being tight just think there should be some scope if you dont use the vehicle
supra joe
Try classic insurance. I wouldn't use any other.

stevie_b
Classic car insurance is certainly cheaper than standard insurance. They don't make allowances for the car only being driven 6 months in a year though. What you'd need for that is a policy that lasts less than a year. Or, could you pay for your policy monthly, and cancel it when you SORN the car? (although that will incur credit charges from the insurance company). There's a catch with classic car insurance: it doesn't accrue or maintain NCD. So if you insure your car on classic car insurance for more than 2 years, your NCD gets lost. You might still find that it's cheaper to do that though.
peter richards
yes just filled out the form with footman , it only had a sz na come up when i put the reg in , but a very nice girl phoned me so run through a few things with her ncd is a concern as ive got 15 years with admiral, dont really want to lose that as i might need it later on once ive sold my truck or something £139 was the price so a bit less than my renewal
Gaz6002
NEVER take a renewal quote without ringing around. They're pretty much always higher than they should be.

If the policies run back-to-back (i.e. no significant gaps in between them), then if you start the third year's policy (the standard one) a few days before the 2nd one runs out, you'll have taken it out within 2 years (just!) of the previous standard one expiring. Maybe it's a faff, but it's an option.

Havard
For £50, is it worth all the cocking about Peter? I personally can't believe that insurers will cover a car for less than £200, no matter how good a risk you are, everyone makes mistakes or is a victim of crime at some point. H. peter richards
that was what i was thinking H , ill give admiral a call before the date and ask if they can give me a better figure ,probably stick with it for now , but at least i know the other is available

sebas
Anything less than 200 is extremely good offer in my opinion. Yesterday I paid 551 for my insurance. I'm 35 with 9 years NCD, 3 points on my licence and my policy is limited to 4000 miles. I've got a jdm supra RZ, year 2001 and mods are declared to my insurer. peter richards
yes i suppose your right it was the useage part of it i was looking at , everything is risk and probability of having an accident , so if its in the garage 80% of the year its not going to
stevie_b
yes i suppose your right it was the useage part of it i was looking at , everything is risk and probability of having an accident , so if its in the garage 80% of the year its not going to It might not be that simple though. If someone rarely drives, it *might* (I don't have evidence, but it's plausible) mean that they're more likely to have an accident because they're out of practice. I'm not saying you fall into that category, but other occasional or part-year drivers might, especially in the first few days after bringing their car out of winter hibernation. These are all factors in the rather complicated and opaque world of insurance risk.
mplavery
yea you are being tight lol You may not use your car but it still covered in case it stolen. I always insure my car, I did not use it once in 2014 but if it was not insured and was stolen of course I would be gutted ! £200 for piece of mind that your covered a small price to pay IMO
