Dnk
I just received an email saying its from the Royal Mail Notice Royal Mail is sorry to inform you that a package addressed to you was seized by HM Revenue & Customs upon arrival into the United Kingdom. A close inspection deemed your items as counterfeit and the manufacturers have been notified. If your items are declared genuine then they will be returned back to you with the appropriate custom charges. You may have been a victim of counterfeit merchandise and the RM Group UK will notify you on how to get your money back. Please review the attached PDF document for more information. I have an item coming from Japan hence my post but concerned as the email doesn't mention my name etc so i'm not sure what's in the PDF if this isn't a genuine email Update The pdf file is from a-5.1fichier.com and not Royal Mail so I'm guessing its a virus in the pdf

stevie_b
I say it's a scam: 1) I doubt Royal Mail would notify you by email. How would they know your email address? I would think they'd notify you via a card through your door. 2) Detecting counterfeit goods isn't RM's business. That would be Trading Standards. It's a specialist job. Sure, they could deduce some some obviously counterfeit goods are moody. Or could they? Some of the stuff that the fashion houses turn out, I think look a bit hideous, so I'd struggle to 100% say something is counterfeit, unless the brand name is spelt wrong or the logo is wrong. Even so, I'd bet money that RM don't spend their time on this activity. It's easy to spoof an email address though. You'd have to look through the internet headers to tell it's been spoofed (some anti-virus programs will do this for you, I think).
