MaveriK
As per the title really, I have spoken to a plumber who suggested either a Monarch Midi or TapWorks AD11. Advice most welcome.

mwilkinson
We have had a Harvey Mega Twin for around 4 years. We had it installed when we had our heating system changed. It has made a noticeable difference in limescale reduction in the Kitchen and Bathroom. We also don't get any chlorine smell or taste from the water. I'm very happy with it. Cost about £1000 with install and the block salt packs cost a few pounds a month. It is totally maintenance free. I have a three bed house, although there is only my wife and me. We go through one pack a month.
imi
Would recommend a basic one - not the fancy dual chamber GBP1000+ one. Ones you mention are good makes (I am not clued up on the specific model). we have a coral 10Ltr auto metered with an autotrol valve (highly recommended) - 10ltr is good enough for a house of 4 - cost 400-500. Got it from fountain softeners 3 years ago. This is one of the threads I used when researching - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=370187
