Abz
Think he means those monthly bank account charges for having an account. That is paying for a service, didn't think you can claim that back.
Kendo11
Yeah if it's one of those £12 a month advantage gold type accounts you can't claim them back.
jamesmark
I successfully claimed back my PPI on a loan and CC. Nice little pay day it was too. Never used those rip off companies. So simply to do.

Chris Wilson
As they are neither fraudulent, hidden or applied under duress or via misinformation i can't see how you could possibly cite a reason to try and reclaim them. It's like trying to reclaim rental payments. It's a service and they charge a fee. Your choice whether to accept when you open an account, surely? Looking at some of the reasons for claiming that are provided in the link, a few of them seem very weak. Could be a license for claims-happy people to trouser a nice sum of money, if the burden of proof lies with the banks. I dunno, I sense a bandwagon. Mis-selling products is turning into the whiplash of the financial industry. Hard to prove one way or the other, easy to claim for, hard to defend against. Mis-selling products is turning into the whiplash of the financial industry. Hard to prove one way or the other, easy to claim for, hard to defend against. The reasons are laughable, when I claimed back my PPI I only done so on the 2 that I personally felt I could as I was not advised about it on one and the other I was advised I stood a better chance of being accepted (for the loan) if i took PPI. Other loans that fell in the time limit I did not claim for as I recall asking for it, even though if I did claim I would have been successful. Pisses me off these things, as if you take out a bank card that has a monthly fee then should you not be asking what am I paying for? It is not like a loan and bolted on PPI, the actual product you have has a fee for services. As you said to much burden lies with the banks. Al Massey
You can claim them back. Wasn't it because they can not charge you for the account??
Style
First I've heard. I'm paying a tenner on my Gold account that gives me certain perks. Electrical goods cover and breakdown cover are a few of the things I get.
stevie_b
Wasn't it because they can not charge you for the account?? That's not true. As Chris said, the banks are charging a fee for providing a bank account. They're allowed to do that. What this is about is some customers allegedly being misled when "sold" these accounts. Some claims are legitimate, e.g. if you're told you need to open this sort of account for the bank to consider you for a mortgage, that kind of thing. But some of the reasons seem to stem from not being bothered to read the small print. It's like me claiming my car insurance premiums back because I didn't read the small print, or didn't have every bit explained to me verbatim. Kendo11
I would say in this particular case it depends if you've used any of the perks. For example some of them give you car insurance, home insurance, discounts on holidays etc. Same principle as the ppi claims - if you've used them then I doubt they'd entertain a claim for it being mis-sold. Seems strange to pay for a bank account that doesn't actually give you anything. Attero
I pay for my bank account, £15 a month I think and then they give me £5 back as a thanks for being a customer. So for £10 a month I get all sorts of perks including travel insurance, mobile insurance, breakdown cover, etc. It's pretty good I think. The accounts you pay for usually give you something: travel insurance, better rates on home insurance (not usually worth paper it's written on), breakdown cover (I doubt it covers you at home), that kind of thing. Attero
Free insurance and breakdown or discounted insurance and cover? It's all included in the costs. I have a phone number with my bank that I call and they sort it all out for you. No mention of any discounts or freebies (if what you are referring to is a loophole). Or is it a case of ringing up and finding out you've been shafted because you didn't read the fine print?
