Apparently you can claim them back, link to reputable sight. Has a free template for you to start your claim.

First I've heard about this. Looking at some of the reasons for claiming that are provided in the link, a few of them seem very weak. Could be a license for claims-happy people to trouser a nice sum of money, if the burden of proof lies with the banks. I dunno, I sense a bandwagon.

Mis-selling products is turning into the whiplash of the financial industry. Hard to prove one way or the other, easy to claim for, hard to defend against.

The reasons are laughable, when I claimed back my PPI I only done so on the 2 that I personally felt I could as I was not advised about it on one and the other I was advised I stood a better chance of being accepted (for the loan) if i took PPI. Other loans that fell in the time limit I did not claim for as I recall asking for it, even though if I did claim I would have been successful.

Pisses me off these things, as if you take out a bank card that has a monthly fee then should you not be asking what am I paying for? It is not like a loan and bolted on PPI, the actual product you have has a fee for services. As you said to much burden lies with the banks.

Wasn't it because they can not charge you for the account??

That's not true. As Chris said, the banks are charging a fee for providing a bank account. They're allowed to do that. What this is about is some customers allegedly being misled when "sold" these accounts. Some claims are legitimate, e.g. if you're told you need to open this sort of account for the bank to consider you for a mortgage, that kind of thing. But some of the reasons seem to stem from not being bothered to read the small print.

It's like me claiming my car insurance premiums back because I didn't read the small print, or didn't have every bit explained to me verbatim.

I would say in this particular case it depends if you've used any of the perks.

For example some of them give you car insurance, home insurance, discounts on holidays etc. Same principle as the ppi claims - if you've used them then I doubt they'd entertain a claim for it being mis-sold.

Congratulations, I believe you have just created something commonly known as a new "Bandwagon".

I wonder who will be the first to attempt to board it? ;)

Any more ideas and do you want a partner?

Ah I see, just checked online and found out more.

Seems strange to pay for a bank account that doesn't actually give you anything.

Found this on money saving expert website

I pay for my bank account, £15 a month I think and then they give me £5 back as a thanks for being a customer.

So for £10 a month I get all sorts of perks including travel insurance, mobile insurance, breakdown cover, etc. It's pretty good I think.

Free insurance and breakdown or discounted insurance and cover?

The accounts you pay for usually give you something: travel insurance, better rates on home insurance (not usually worth paper it's written on), breakdown cover (I doubt it covers you at home), that kind of thing.

It's all included in the costs. I have a phone number with my bank that I call and they sort it all out for you. No mention of any discounts or freebies (if what you are referring to is a loophole).

Well are you definitely covered for a breakdown or for your home and travel insurance?

Or is it a case of ringing up and finding out you've been shafted because you didn't read the fine print?
