Tomyspeedy
A full service history is great but does it need to be stamped by toyota or your local garage? Would you think twice of one written in by the owner? If you service you car yourself do you have a stamp made up for such uses?
ManwithSupra
If I knew the previous owner was competent a MKIV member and a true enthusiast and there were receipts for oil, filters, plugs and a good history of the car on the forum etc then I wouldn't see any reason to worry. If its an unknown car then I would be more likely to scrutinize the receipts etc and do a bit more investigation. I have always done my own servicing on my cars mainly as I dont trust a garage to do it properly on my own pride an joy (A garage that was reccomended to me on here gave me shocking service and bodged the repairs on my last Supra, leaving rounded off nuts, cross threaded bolts and snapped bolts on the cam covers etc which I put right but NEVER AGAIN), When it comes to history though I do go overboard on documentation to show it has been done properly. I don't have a stamp as such but on the service schedule I always attached receipts for parts for those services/repairs to the relevant schedule as well as notes about what I done when i done it what needs doing, part numbers etc, signed and dated. j_jza80
Depends on the vehicle. With a Supra, a main dealer history means nothing, other than a bit of provenance for the buyer. If anything, an unfamiliar Toyota dealer is probably the laSt place you'd want to work on your Supra, because very few if any of the mechanics will be familiar with them. A specialist service record, with someone like SRD, Whifbitz, TB Developments etc would be the ideal, but failing that a comprehensive set of receipts for top end parts, and evidence of competent DIY or a trusted mechanic would be the next best thing
Scooter
I have some a4 sheets with date and mileage details, and the oil type sticker peeled off the container. Will keep receipts of bits purchased and note down any sundry work too. We are reaching the stage where poor history is starting to show up physical faults and so the paper history becomes more of a nice to have add on, at least that's the way I see it. I've become mildly paranoid about having anyone work on mine, would rather diy all I can, and besides I'm really trying to be one of those sad old gits who never moves on from their 'old' car, so in part it doesn't matter as long as I feel I'm looking after it right.
