fisherjohn
Got my engine out today. Numbers 1,2 bores grooved number 4 pitted at top. Number 4 piston real bad from spark plug damage side blown out. Shells not exactly good considering new oil in engine. Looking at rebore. New Pistons / Rings / Top and bottom shells. Any ideas on price you guys out there for rebore, pistons etc. John
Steve Cargill
Hi John, fancy joining the farked engine society Mine went into Leons on Wednesday and I've not heard the full damage yet... I'd have thought you're looking at 2-3 grand minimum all in. Is there any head damage? Are you going to look at other bits whilst you're in there? Didn't you think the injectors may have caused it? fisherjohn
Hi Steve, Head at present looks ok at least the valves do need to check the seats though. Probably going to rebore and fit 87.5 mm pistons, matter of finding out if local people who do reboring in Ipswich can obtain them or where to get them from, was not expecting to spend this much so soon, only bought car last April saw it for first time in July 2002, spent £ 9000 on it last July / August, drove it for one month, then went to sea for 5 months, returned Oct 09th and blew it up Oct 16th, so actually only drove it for approx 6 weeks since i have owned it. After spending £ 19000 to buy and do up last year i am pretty sick at present for only 6 weeks driving. Seems my mate reckons it had been damaged prior to me owning it as when the head came off the internals were brown where they should have been spotlessly clean, damage to number 4 piston he thinks was not all done when i thrashed it but some damage done prior to my owning it. Never mind shxt happens / hoping i can get it up and running by the 26th of April. May have to go back to sea early to pay for this lot !!! But i am lucky in one respect - my wife won't drive it, and definately won't after this.
Patters
I have had the same problem with my Supra, although its only a NA engine. The big ends have gone on mine, due to the previous owner neglecting it. The mechanic who's sorting my engine out reckons that buying the parts for the engine is very expensive and labour intensive. So he got me a used engine with 30,000 miles on it for £700, from a company that imports the engines from Japan's scrapyards. All in all its costing me around £1500, which is better than I expected.
