Chris Wilson
If so what do you think of it, and is there room in the back, with the rear seats down, for a *BIG* dog? Cheers. I can't find a single photo of the back of one with the seats down...
abtin90
Don't own one but found these on a quick search on google There more pictures with dimensions listed here: http://www.rica.org.uk/2829 Hope that helps
Gaz6002
It IS a big dog. Horrible torque steer. You won't believe how bad it is. It's almost funny. The engine was meant for the Mazda6 with four driven wheels, not the 3, with just the fronts
Chris Wilson
Well found, I looked for ages! Thanks for that. I will have a go in one, I don't really like FWD at all, but the engines in them are good, and they look discrete, but have a reasonable turn of speed and not desperately bad economy. Finding small, quick RWD cars is hard these days... Thanks for the warning about the torque steer! Have you got one? Mazda6 is too big. Cheers. j_jza80
What about a Focus ST? I assume they share a great deal with the 3. Volvo engine too, which I thought you'd like
cered
friend had one and loved it, has a 6 MPS saloon now. He's got one of those "Shiebe" dogs and he seems happy enoguh in it. I'd go for the facelift Focus ST3 though... In orange. ASBO is an option sadly.

Wouldn't touch one with someone else's bargepole. Focus ST wagon or ideally Octavia vRS for you.
Chris Wilson
Focus is far too flash looking, I like very discrete cars that don't get nicked or attract "unwanted" attention Plus I will wreck the inside in a month, so don't want to spend too much

Chris Wilson
I am still waiting for CW's budget. 7k TOPS. Minimal toys and gadgets preferred, nothing French or French engined. Room for a BIG dog in the back, discrete looks. Decent performance, reasonable economy. No diesels.

You'd find a nice one well within you budget, it's small, RWD, comes with a manual box, you can find a model without sat nav etc.
heedthebaw
Owned the 3 MPS (Mk 1) and currently own the Focus (Facelift Mk 2). The MPS is a decent car, well spec'd for the price (Bose sound system is great). It's quick enough for what it is but like most stock turbo car's it runs out higher up the rev range. What i didn't like about it was the crashy ride and the handling in general. The faults about them are well known about - turbo seals are prone to go, VVTi actuators etc. It has loads of space and a massive boot and is ideal for moving stuff or animals. I have the focus just now and would recommend it over the MPS in pretty much every department as an every day car. MPG wise, on the commute I averaged 32mpg in the Mazda and approximately 27-30mpg in the Focus - mixture of Motorway, A and B roads.

Nice car to ruin with a big dog. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/1-series/bmw-1-series-130i-m-sport-le-------------2007/5080044 H. Decent performance, reasonable economy. No diesels. Not sure what mileage your limit is but: Audi A3 Sportback - plenty of choice under that budget - with big or medium engines dependant on your fuel economy preferences. can easily go discrete Impreza Wagon - tbh they used to be flash but today they are only flash if modded up with kits and driven by people with baseball caps. if its stock they look fine and blend in amongst the rest. And the newer hatchback type is as blended in as you can get. really dumbed down the garishness on the 2008/9 onwards just to note I think hatchbacks are as bulky as estates, size is quite deceptive these day. Estates - Legacy B Spec (poor economy) or Octavia RS. if I was reasoning with the wife - 7k on a reasonable economy hatchback vs 4-5k poor economy but awesome performance? 2k difference for petrol would last a fair few years £20 extra each fill at worst / £2k would equate to? 100 tanks approx 30k miles for £2k
