Chris Wilson
I haven't found disliking American trash science fiction particularly trying, to be honest. Watching England succumb to over population, excess immigration and a lemming like desire to accept these things as acceptable and inevitable are harder to stomach. By far the worst are women with tattoos of course...
Scott
I can't believe that supposed adults not only pay to watch this American kid's junk, but then go on to seriously discuss and review it I would need paying to endure it, and insist on a paper bag on my head. The power of the advertising agencies is terrifying. It's not the Americanisation or the power of advertising that's made it so popular. It's the nostalgia. I remember being a kid and wanting to be Superman, the Hulk, Spiderman, wanting to hang out on Solo's Millenium Falcon with Chewy and having a light Sabre fight with Luke Skywalker. It's the fun and imagination of being a kid that pulls the adult masses towards Star Wars, and this one in particular as it's back to the originals that we remember. Scoff away though you grumpy old sh*t

Majority of Star Wars is filmed in the UK, with UK actors, staff, engineers etc. etc. Massive boost to our movie economy.
j_jza80
It's not the Americanisation or the power of advertising that's made it so popular. It's the nostalgia. By complete coincidence, I was watching 'Field of Dreams' a few days before Star Wars came out, and James Earl Jones character summarised it perfectly “Ray. People will come, Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you look around", you'll say, "It's only $20 per person". They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces." Kendo11
Glad to be in the minority (on here anyway) to buck the trend and say I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Everything I'd hoped it would be, and no let downs during any of it for me. As soon as the titles started rolling and the original score kicked in I got goosebumps that lasted pretty much all the way through. The fact that it's a whole week after the premiere and 9 out of 10 screens in my cinema were still showing this is a positive sign. Loved it. BAH HUMBUG. Sanya
Guys, what I meant and all who did not like it is that it is not a Star Wars movie, it's an action packed, well made sci fi comedy. But NOT a Star Wars continuation. As a fan I was expecting for the new Republic theme with Jedi order reboot, even if they would of made a movie about Luke training new kids and Kilo Ren betray them that would of been more of a story then remade episode 4. Piece! ))
Kendo11
Would that have been too much to cram in though? JJ had a big responsibility to not fk it up. I'm still blown away now haha, but that's the beauty of film I spose, we all take different things from them
Scott
Of course it's a continuation. How can it be considered anything but? All the original cast, years have gone by and new things are developing.... that's the definition of a continuation FFS. You will NEVER please everyone but I'm glad to see the masses are enjoying and praising it, and taking it for what it is. Think of the age you were when you saw your first star wars film. watch this with the same eyes. It's unfair to consider it in any other way. j_jza80
So, I went to see it again this afternoon (needed a couple of hours away from extended family ), but this time in 3D. Well, to begin with I think they've created the best 3d effects of any film I've ever seen, surpassing my previous favourite 3d film, Avatar. I was fortunate enough to get sat bang in the middle of the cinema, and in one scene the effect of a Star destroyer pointing out of the screen was totally convincing. Amazing stuff Some of you may be relieved to know that it gets better with a second watch. There is just far too much to absorb with one viewing. As per my previous comments, one area that let's this film down in the context of the overall saga is its musical score. That's not to say it's bad, it's just the worst Starwars score by default. I'm also pretty convinced that they handled Han Solo pretty poorly, although his eventual fate is better with another watch. But instead of him and Leia separating, and Han becoming a geriatric smuggler, it would have been better if Han and Chewie had tracking Kylo Ren with a view to confronting him, with the same end result. In fact, maybe the films greatest flaw is that I don't think the integration of the old cast was totally successful , though it was always going to be very difficult. Al Massey
I saw it in 3D and was amazed. They did it well in this film. My favourite bit is when tie fighters are chasing the X wings and a tie fighter just pops up in front of you in full 3D is awesome

supra_ufo
I always skip 3d movies as most of them a BS, I had free tickets for this movie in 2D but could pay the difference for the 3D I might watch it again in 3D if the MRS is up for it. I have been watching epiosode 123 too, and some questions have come up that I was confused about, maybe you guys can explain... Count Dooku or whatever his name, was fighting against the sith yet his master was a sith, did he fool count dooku too?
Kendo11
I was always under the impression that Dooku was doing the right thing, but in the wrong way.
Scott
No idea if I follow what you're asking... However..... Count Dooku was on the dark side as I understand it. Sidious being captured was a planned ruse to turn Skywalker.

I was under the impression that dooku didnt know about the chancellor being Sidious LOL In epiosde 2 i am sure he told obi wan that the republic was under the control of the dark lord sith called darth sidious.. Dooku says something like "you must join me obi wan and together we will destroy the sith"

Dooku says something like "you must join me obi wan and together we will destroy the sith" Yeah that's what I was getting at. He tells Obi Wan that the Senate is under the control of the Sith and they're planning a war etc. Maybe he was being manipulated by Palpatine too? Dooku says something like "you must join me obi wan and together we will destroy the sith" That was all a rouse by Dooku. He was a master manipulator and liar. My guess is he was either insincere in his offer in order to get information, or he was sincere and had a plan to overthrow Sidious. Yoda told Obi Wan not to trust anything he said as he was completely corrupted by the dark side.
Al Massey
Can't anyone remember the fight between dooku and yoda? Where dooku openly says he is stronger then yoda because he has mastered the dark side
j_jza80
Another great role by Christopher Lee Although a stupid name has anyone noticed that one of the pilots in the new film is Ello Asty? Apparently it's a reference to the brilliant 90's album Hello Nasty by Beastie Boys.
Hitbox Junkie
i saw this yesterday and thought it was brilliant. but i just went in with the mind set of it should be a like able film and not something to pick at.
Thorin
I saw it in 3D but didn't think the 3D was that impressive. It wasn't filmed in 3D so it's just faked in post-production.
