I have just typed a massive text of disappointment but took control of myself in the last moment as don't want to spoil it for people who have not seen it yet Nd they might be put off by someone's personal opinion... Maybe it's worth starting a thread with the name "Star Wars spoiler alert"? :))

I liked Phantom Menace.

Someone had to :D

The main issues with that film were an obsession with CGI characters, which looked terrible at the time and worse now, and Lucas's attempts at injecting some humour, namely Jar Jar Binks, but plenty of others too.

Liam Neeson, Ewan Mcgregor were great, as was Darth Maul.

But for all its failings, it still felt authentic. This newest film looked like Star Wars, but I'm not sure if it felt like it. I think the decidedly average musical score contributed towards that.

Also, I don't think JJ Abrams is a great director. His Star Trek reboot was great, and that is part of the problem. He didn't do enough to differentiate the style of the Force Awakens from Star Trek.
