ripped_fear
So as most of you know I love to detail a car, and like to think I'm pretty good at it. I was brought up using autoglym products, and still use plenty of their stuff. However over the last few years I have branched out and bought specific products form different companies but mainly for a tailored very specific purposes ie- Meguire metal polish, Meguires tyre dressing Poor boys wheel seleant Glypton leather cleaner etc etc. Now this leads me to my question I thought I would by my dad a single cleaning product as a tree present for christmas, but want it be a brand out of his comfort zone as he loves cleaning his car too. Now he is an autoglym fan though and through but I want to give him something else. Baring in mind his car isnt a show car its just a normal car (although mint), so he doesn't need to be polishing bare metal etc, what ONE product would be a nice item to get him to try branch out. Been looking at maybe a Poorboys Super Slick & Wax Shampoo, or maybe their glass cleaner. You have around £15 to play with what would you choose? Ric
The Auto finesse range is all what's in my cupboards now, lovely stuff, you could try their Tough Coat Sealant.. The Iron Out contamination remover is great as a wheel cleaner and turns a lovely purple to show it's working, Stinks though and would strip his protection off eventually
listy
As Ric said, Auto Finesse is great stuff. My shelf is full of Meguairs and AF. For a glass cleaner, I'd go for Meguairs. It doesnt smear, only takes two sprays to do a windscreen, and it's that good, my misses made me get her a bottle for the house!

adnanshah247
auto finesse is good but why get him some glazes or polishes for the colour of his car. I'd by something from Poor Boys or Dodo Juice. Eg. if he has a dark coloured car or a red car get him a bottle of Black Hole Glaze with applicator pads and micro fibre cloth as a set. you can get that online easily within your budget. what ever you get, try and tailor it directly towards his car. i remember my friend asking me for a favour like this and we managed to score an original ford sierra bottle of shampoo from the 80's (his dad had a mint ford sierra - collectors) Im a detailer as well, just dont advertise here on the forum because its my pals Stonkins play ground. Thanks though Not sure the iron out will be very popular with him if it will remove the protection As Ric said, Auto Finesse is great stuff. My shelf is full of Meguairs and AF. Stonkin
Sorry, only just seen this thread! looks like you have already made your purchase, and a good one too It's a great product, easy to use and can be machined by DA or used by hand. Just make sure your Dad applies a wax or sealant over the top or its filler properties will get washed out quite quick. Other than that I was going to recommend a new wash mitt and drying towel, something that can be nice to use, good for his car and something he can enjoy using each time

Thanks I think I will give it a go, the 3m stage has cut it back great, but my polish and wax selections are all fairly generic, and would like to invest in a tailored product too. Stonkin
Thanks I think I will give it a go, the 3m stage has cut it back great, but my polish and wax selections are all fairly generic, and would like to invest in a tailored product too. The 3m polish range are ok, I would normally only use the Fastcut if doing multi stage corrections. The older fastcut was very dusty and benefited being mixed with a little ultrafina but the plus range has fixed this a bit and also allows a longer worktime. Personally I prefer Meguiars and Menzerna polishes. Menzerna can play up a bit in colder weather if you are not familiar with it, Meguiars is a bit more forgiving but may have to be worked a little longer to get the results. There are so many products available these days for all areas of valeting/detailing, I understand how it can be confusing for a home user. Its a case of finding something you like using, know how to get the best from and fits within your budget. Otherwise you can end up spending a fortune and having a garage full of stuff 3/4 full that you don't use.
