Steering column shaft

Hi guys,

Currently dropping my front subframe with the rack attached. What's the best technique to separate this?

Looking at the way it is, I assume it needs to be slid up towards the bulkhead to release it off the rack?

Mine is not budging at all, is there any easy technique/method to separate this?

When I did mine I took the rack off the subframe before removing it.

The bolts for the clamps are easily accessible and then this gives you movement to detach the clamp on the rack to the column.

I have the home made tools in the garage when you want them.

Cheers

Jon

Yeah I've got the bolts out fine it's just proper stuck in there after so many years that I just can't slide it out at all, I've soaked it over night in penetrating fluid, I'll see if that gives me some sort of movement.

Cheers Jon, as soon as I've got this damn subframe off I'll get to the cam belt

Try the pinch clamp at the top end of the column in the engine bay that one may be cleaner to break. Also ease open the pinch slightly.

Oh also I did the drive belt area first whilst the engine was still mounted on the subframe because the crank bolt is on V tight
