Cheap Laptop advice

Evening guys

Time has come for me to get another laptop. I dont have a good track history with them :taped:

I need something Cheap, cheaper the better, and must be brand new so I have a warranty.

I simply use it browsing the net mainly, but also like to play with vegas pro and photo shop. This is honestly all I use it for, never use it for gaming or any fancy programs. Not to fussed about a huge hard drive I store most my stuff externally anyway.

Would need an SD card slot and a usb port and id be happy.

Stumbled on this- http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-stream-11-r050sa-11-6-laptop-blue-10137770-pdt.html

Somthing between £100 and £150 would be ideal didnt even realise you could get one so cheap!

I have no clue when it comes to computers so any advice appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Jake

I just sold my hp stream on ebay today! For £100. Looks identical to that one, and almost identical spec.

It was an ok laptop. Quick enough for youtube and basic stuff. But no CD drive (although not massively needed in todays world). But main reason I didn't like it was lack of HD space. By time you install office 365 and I used google drive I was constantly running out of space. Drove me nuts!

But if its for youtube and basic words processing you'll be fine. I also didn't like the spacing between the keys of the keyboard. I touch type and those gaps were a massive irritation.

I would personally go for a 2nd hand business laptop, for example the Dell E6220 or E6420, there great laptops and built to last. We use them at work and take abuse, those laptops you linked to are base spec and probably have cheap components.

Exactly what I did. I went for a used Lenovo thinkpad. They may not look as snazzy but functionality and robustness they beat the hp stream every day of the week. They were £1400 new for a reason. Not £150

My missus was a nightmare with laptops, tried two new budget price ones from Ebuyer and they never lasted much more than a year or two and always had one problem or another during that time. 2 years ago I took a gamble on a HP Chromebook that I saw on offer and its been brilliant. Like you Jake she uses it pretty much for the web, a bit of work stuff (exel, word), and photos. Its been faultless, battery life is great, it's stayed virus, popup, adware free, opens just about everything you throw at it, lots of aps and for us a real plus point is that it has a full size HDMI socket built in. Boots up and ready for use in seconds too, all for less than £200.

I know serious PC users don't like Chrome and obviously it's pretty reliant on a internet connection for a lot of stuff, but nowadays that's not an issue anyhow. Most people can create a wifi hotspot from their phones if needed. I cant think of anything she had running on previous windows machines that she cant use on the chromebook to be honest. I guess its not going to suit people with loads of windows os based programs but for most application it seems to be fine, and has lasted too.

Thanks for all the advice, I guess the general consensus is spend a bit more. In which case I shall wait till after Chrismas as I have spent a small fortune on the new build over the last month.

If anyone has any recommendations for laptop for me to be looking at though please feel free to link a few. Just to give me an idea.

My personal opinion:

If you are just browsing ebay, amazon, mkivsupra.net, etc. Devices you have mentioned are ok. (I cant even call them laptops my phone is more powerfull and have more memory then these)

However, if you want to watch movies, store pictures or process some other video or images, you need a proper Laptop.

For now I would not look at anything below 8GB RAM, at least 4th gen i5 chip, and at least 500GB of storage

I would recommend these basic requirements and you choose all the other stuff, bearing in mind if you are going to work with heavy visual stuff you also need a decent graphics processor (GPU) or it will frustrate you to bits.
