HarleyFDMD
Ok so this might be abit long winded but here goes. I purchased a 2007 fiesta 1.25 for £150 from a mate. 70k miles 1 owner from new, absolute bargain and it sailed through its MOT. Problem was I found it abit boring and working at Mazda I thought I'd swap it for an MX5. I've been at Mazda for only 6 months and never actually work on anything older than about 2008 so should have done abit of research first before swapping the fiesta for a 1990 MX5. I got chatting to a lad online who had an imported 1990 MX5 80k, really clean with no rotten sills. After a couple weeks of chatting and sending pictures of the cars we agreed to swap. Both had similar book values in there current condition and mileages. Now, I will be the first to admit I was an absolute bellend. We met in a services at 8pm (in the dark) spoke for an hour or so and then literally swapped keys and swapped log books and off we went! Who does that!! No test drives no nothing! 1) he could only meet in the evening because of work 2) suggested meeting half way even though I said I'd come to his house 3) didn't ask to test drive my car probably so I didn't test drive his 4) suggested we swapped log books too (so that he had the log book for the fiesta so he could send it off I literally fell for everything hook line and sinker! And to think my mates ask me for advice when buying cars!! Driving home the car obviously had a problem. Zero power what so ever. Struggled to get to 70mph Then when looking round it the following day I could see it had been resprayed badly, it was silver but obviously used to be red. Did a Reg check (didn't do this before hand) bloody cat C Checked previous MOTs everyone had advisories for rust underneath until last year when it failed... Then all of a sudden 10 days later it passed. Repaired?? Nope! Dodgey MOT Contacted the guy and was basically told to fuck off. Went to his house, he wasn't there but his dad was, spoke to him who told me his son had been stung before and that there was nothing he could do. So I left it at that. Sold the MX5 completely honestly to an MX5 breaker and actually ended up about £50 up so didn't lose anything. Would you just put this down to a life lesson due to all the stupid over excited mistakes I made... Or would you get revenge on the slimey little twat.. Bearing in mind I still have the spare key for the fiesta. I have thought about a hand full of sand, maybe the odd stone into his oil filler cap in the middle of the night, McDonald's breakfast and then wait around for him to drive to work in the morning (or at least atempt too)

HarleyFDMD
It's one of those times when you really want to hurt someone. Without them knowing
mellonman
Ouch killer , know what you mean by wanting to hurt someone , to be honest it could have been alot worse at least you got the fiesta for £150 I know its not the point but it could have been a £5000 car , So you got away lightly and lernt a very valuable lesson every grey cloud and all that
jamesmark
Sorry but as you said you were a bellend for doing such a stupid thing. I am surprised you're getting so worked up for such a small amount of money, you actually made money. Put it down to experience, even if you lost everything it would still have been technically your fault.

HarleyFDMD
It's not the money that pissed me off, £150 is neither here nor there. It's the feeling that someone can be so dishonest to you. I was completely honest with him and over the couple weeks we were having abit of banter like mates... And now I know the whole time he was just preparing to do me over

Abz
You actually made profit, who cares I wouldn't waste any further time with the guy, for over £150 it isn't worth it. Put it down to a lesson learned and one you got lucky with.
cered
You swapped a 2007 Ford Fiesta worth maybe £2k for an ancient MX5 worth £500? That was the first problem i had with your post...
HarleyFDMD
The fiesta was a little battle scared. It was essentially a shopping trolley and had the associated car parks dents etc.. The mx5 was supposedly very clean Both should have been worth around £1200 But yeah, I here you guys, it's just not worth it considering I actually made money. Just fucking annoying
evinX
Got the spare key? re apply for the log book £25. Get it, go get the car. all yours. LOL. id leave it but a wicked idea would be open it up and thrash the interior with old engine oil. It will never come out hehe
MATT RR
move on mate, the situation may escalate quickly if you retaliate, all the signs were there, you should have known better, put it down to lesson learnt. I am gutted for you BTW, but it was a pretty silly thing to do IMO On the plus side you are £50 up
neilp9876
I remember buying a 2.8i Capri with my dad once, we met the guy at night in a petrol station forecourt. The car was for my dad and it was his money so I convinced him to buy it, it was so bad the whole chassis used to twist when you put the power down. I was going to say we live and learn, but we don't, we get a little wiser but will still for stuff again sooner or later, its human nature to want to trust people and see 'what they want to see' rather than 'whats in front of them'. Anyway move on, it will be a story down the pub in a years time.
Swampy442
People only swap cars when there's issues and they cant sell them. True story. As said you made cash on it, write it off and assume everyone is trying to have your eyes out.
Chris6t9
First thing I thought when you said you still have the spare key was sugar in the oil!!
Stonkin
Count yourself very lucky you ended up quids in on this occasion, it could easily have been very different. You wont do it again
Scott
With the hindsight of years of getting stung behind me I would genuinely go and thank the guy. You've been caught out and taught one of the most valuable lessons you ever will with car buying and it didn't even cost you a penny, in fact you actually made £50 out of it. You should buy the guy a box of beer and leave it on his doorstep, thanks to him you'll never be stung in such a way again... or be so stupid, when it could potentially cost you 1000s. Chris Wilson
FFS, you made £50 quid and learnt a good lesson, ring him up and see if he has any more cars to trade Talk about a lucky escape.

Go to his house at 3am. Lift the bonnet and put sand in the oil, fill the bonnet area with expanding foam etc. There is loads you can do..!! H. Tony
As above, put it down to a life lesson, could have been worse. On another note, nothing honorable about sneaking around damaging cars or anthing else for that matter.
Chris Wilson
Indeed, this is how mini urban wars start. I know very few people who would relish such a thing, and they don't easily stop. Shrug it off unless the Kray Twins are ex family members, where such things would be a fun minor distraction from major crime

Sanya
I would let it go, don't blame someone else for being careless and stupid in this particular situation, this is life and thank him for a lesson. And you got it for cheap, I lost much much more when was given the same lesson. Weigh it out, I don't think retaliation is worth it. Karma is going to bite him any way. HarleyFDMD
I'm going to leave it and put it down to a life lesson.. Simply because I don't want him retaliating on the supra!
