Hitbox Junkie
Well I am planning on moving out and getting on the property lander in the next 2 years. Hoping to get a house with a garage but if it doesn't I'm hoping it will have access to the rear garden. My idea is that I'd use a shipping container as a garage instead a new 20ft by 8ft container is around 2k or used is around the 1.3k mark and this would be cheaper than having a garage built? Has anyone done this or what are your thoughts?
tintinmt
'Works well as storage but not wide enough internally for a garage - unless you plan on buying an Austin 7.
Chris Wilson
How are you going to open the doors of the car within? How will you get it IN the back garden? Have you considered your neighbours opinion on a shipping container in the back garden? Planning permission issues? Plus they sweat like hell. j_jza80
Picking up on chris's last point, a family friend who owns a haulage firm put his mgb in a container for circa 2 years iirc. When he took it out again it was rotten.
Hitbox Junkie
I will take points on board and use it as this is a useless idea and build my own garage/shed Ps sorry for my stupidity
tintinmt
If you have the time and energy, you can probably buy a 'used' timber or sectional concrete garage for very little cash provided you are prepared to dismantle, transport and then reassemble. I did this with/for a mate donkeys years back.
listy
Concrete sectional garages can be had for around £1500 used on fleabay the last time I looked.
Chris Wilson
If you were really keen you could line it in aluminium foil covered foam and fit a ventilated, suspended floor to a storage container, but I still think it would be a good way to wind up the neighbours unless you are buying a farm or something! A good car port can keep a car in better nick than a damp garage.

I think container is out of question now that I've been given alternative solution I never thought of oh and the container is a bad idea. Yes a car port is great too if there room inless it's a stand alone port not attached to the house.
