Guest Wakeemkls
Hi all, i have had my supra for about 3 months now, it's a beautiful car and i've had very few issues until now. The car is a 93 N/A supra. The last time i drove it properly home it drove fine, no noises at all. The next morning i went to drive it and there was a clicking sound. Here is what i have gather about the noise: 1) it sounds like it's something to do with wheels due to the fact that at slow speeds the clicks are far apart, whereas when speeding up the clicks become closer together to the point where it is almost just one solid unbroken clicking noise. 2) the sound is metallic. at first i thought it was the exhaust hitting the road or something similar, because my last car had an issue where the exhaust was hitting the road and this sounds almost identical. (it's not the exhaust i checked and it is hanging where it should be.) 3)i've jacked the car up and looking for anything that could be making the noise and with my low level of experience and knowledge i couldn't see anything obvious that would cause the noice Thanks for your time, i hope that someone is able to help me or give me an easy fix asap so i can back onto the road ! Guest Wakeemkls
also, i've read up a bit of people saying that this could be a wheel bareing going out, but i don't think it is this as their descriptions do not match mine, also the noise doesn't immediately go away when the brakes are applied, it just slows down the frequency of the click. - - - Updated - - - also, i've read up a bit of people saying that this could be a wheel bareing going out, but i don't think it is this as their descriptions do not match mine, also the noise doesn't immediately go away when the brakes are applied, it just slows down the frequency of the click. CorruptSapphire
Sounds stupid but have you checked the tyres to ensure nothing is lodged in the tread.

Fitz
When was the last time you checked the wheel nuts? This, sounds stupid but I had the same thing many years ago. Had a friend of mine drive it slowly next to me found out where it was coming from took the centre cap off and a wheel nut was loose in there rattling around. Dnk
Jack each wheel off the ground and spin them, then listen If the noise speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car it can only be something linked to a part that rotates and changes speed at the same rate the vehicle changes speed loose wheel nuts handbrake shoes brake disc pads brake disc back plates wheel bearings cv joints drive shafts differential prop shaft gearbox and clutch Edited November 21, 2015 by Dnk (see edit history)

Luxluc
Is the plumb for balancing the wheel not touching the brake caliper?

Guest Wakeemkls
Hey guys just thought i would write a quick response to let you guys know i found the issue, after quite the detailed inspection i found that the cv joint was missing 4 of the 6 bolts and thus making the noise. ordering the new bolts tomorrow! So if you hear a metallic clicking sound when you're driving and it only goes away when you slow the car almost to a stop, check your cv joints! Thanks again guys and special mention for Dnk for the big list of things that help me find the issue !
Dnk
Always happy to help It would be worth spending an hour on a ramp and do a bolt check, basically go round nipping up every nut & bolt you can see on the underside of the car Could also be worth checking the nut on the drive shaft in the hub in case that's also not been done up properly, it should be around 290 nm Edited November 23, 2015 by Dnk (see edit history)
