egis
hello, I am interested if someone used bmw 3.0d mechanic gearbox in supra body, the question is about gearbox size, will it fit in a gearbox tunel, all other things about flywheel, adapter, clutch and etc. are mostly solved, just interested in size comparing it with supra's gearboxes. thanks

ashloys
As far as I know the tunnel needs modifying, can't tell you 100% as I haven't done it myself. But I was chatting to mark luney a while back and he said he mocked a 530D box up and it wouldn't fit without modifying. ABC kit is the one to go for if you do get it with the tilton twin plate. Based in Latvia I think.
egis
thanks for info, will try to find more info about fitting bmw gearbox in supra tunnel, i really hope it's enough space for it. i will use custom adapter and flywheel which allows to use bmw clutches instead of tilton
Scooter
It will probably make a difference which supra you have, manual and auto supra's have different shaped tunnels, if you have a manual supra you'll have more chance of it fitting. egis
are you sure that tunnels are different depending of notor and gearbox, because i allways though that the body is the same for all variations, i didn't find in a link anything about tunnel, but thanks anyways

Supra auto to manual 6 speed swap doesn't need the tunnel chopping about as far as I was aware??
Noz
Update for what Neil? Lots of people using BMW setup. They just aren't on this forum. I've a friend who drifts using 600whp through a 330d box.
Andrew K
I thought this. Supra auto to manual 6 speed swap doesn't need the tunnel chopping about as far as I was aware?? No the tunnel isn't the same on a auto and manual supra, if going from auto to manual you have to change the top panel in the tunnel section. I know that, I meant you don't have to reshape the tunnel though (eg hammer or fabrication)
Sandesupra
you change the complete tunnel.. you can just cut out the top, but why not do it proper? the top builds up on manual and is flat on the auto..

I read you can just cut top panel out and weld the new manual part in in. A new tunnel would achieve the same thing but sounds like more work to me... A new tunnel would achieve the same thing but sounds like more work to me... its just spotwelded, just drill out and use a hammer;-) doesent really take any longer then cutting the top, cutting the new tunnel and fitting:)
Turrell26
Hi- I'm currently on the same project- I've put the GS6-53DZ box in already- but now I'm a bit stuck with the speedometer and ABS light issues- any help in solving the wiring would be very much appreciated and I'll be happy to show my findings so far and a couple of pictures on the propshaft and anything else. How much did you take off the prop?(if it was a w58 setup) Guessing your'e going with a gps speedo or do you have abs sensors to read the speed from? Turrell26
Hi- I designed a hub to suit the sup' diff- (I have pictures I'll try and post) and hub to suit the 163mm BMW Cush rubber. Then built my own prop and sent it to be balanced- I tried the 12 tooth lasered ring and sensor but it never works so it's coming off and I've bought a Yaris (I think) sensor to use as a donor rather than destroying my sup one-cos when you plug it in under the car and turn it by hand...it gives a speedo reading or I'm developing an oil bath box to mount it in and replace the cog on the end for a wheel and run it on the prop or adaptor plate and just play about with the sizes until I get an accurate reading- I will post pictures, drawings and finding if people are interested? At this point I best state I'm a machine engineer and opporate a range of machines including 2 lasers. How do I put my pictures in my profile? Oh and ABS is still an issue at the mo' Any help would be great fully received.
Turrell26
Ive managed to post a couple of pics so far to my album of my adaptor hub. But the sensor idea I borrowed from the soarer post Hasn't worked- that's why I'm opting for the Yaris mounted speed senor which def' works- just the ratio bit to sort out.
