JCresswell
Hi All, anybody help, im new here anyway and youve been very helpfull, ive only had the car a few weeks, and although its in good nik, it had its alloy wheels changed for new ones, It looks like they are 18x7.5, the current rear tyre is a 235x40 18, i thought they had to be a minimum of 245 on the TT will a 245 fir on a 7.5 rim ????? Any info would be a great help......
Terminator
They sound a little thin to me. Stock 16's sit on 245 rears. I am not certain but I think you could get 255's on the back which would match the stock 17" tyre width.
Digsy
Sorry to break this to you but your wheels and tyres are too narrow full stop. You want about 9.5" / 10" wide rims on the rear and 8" min on the front. I don't think 245's would be safe on a 7.5" (190.5mm) wide rim. Actually, 235 sounds like its pushing it. Are you sure they are 7.5" rims?
JCresswell
Yeah thats what i thought, fronts are the same rim so im gona stick 235s on them (225s at the mo) and if i can get 255s on the rear rim i will, unfortunatlly i cant buy 2 new back wheels because they only do up to 7.5s which i have already, which means if i cant get 255s on then it may be time for a new set and stick these ones on EBAY!!! Im hoping the dealer was being tight, because he had to supply the wheels and tyres, so he would have saved money by fitting the thinest tyre he could!, anyway, if you find out or if anyone knows for sure It would be a great help Thanks :baa:
JCresswell
Darren, Im not sure they are 7.5, ive looked at the net and i can only find my wheels @ a 18x7.5 i may have to change them, having said that they dont look to big for the rim, and the fronts are225 @ the mo and they do look small for the rim? MMM new wheels !!!!!!!!!
ad500
A cost effective route might be to speak to Pristine wheels in Milton Keynes. They quite often have sets up there for sale that have been part of their refurbish and exchange system.
JCresswell
Update, sorry they could be 8.5" wide!!!! just phoned dealer! DOH should have done this first.................. So could i fit a 255 on a 8.5?
Adam W
First step - find the wheel size printed on the wheel! It will read 18x7.5J or 18x8.5J or similar.
Digsy
When I was trying to decide whether to get socially acceptable wheels or get my three-spokes refurbed I looked around the usual high street places. There are a lot of companies that only make sizes up to 8" wide - probably because that is as far as your average Saxo owner wants to go. Above that the price rises dramatically. I opted for the refurb route. One or two new owners recently have found their car has big, but narrow wheels on it. If it was my money, I wouldn't fit new tyres to what you have - just put the cash into at very least a set of stock 16" or 17" with the correct size rubber. You are compromising handling and safety with anything less. JIC generally have wheels kicking around. On the other hand, if you can afford a new set of 18" x 10" gansta rims right now, then go for it!!

So could i fit a 255 on a 8.5? The tyre width is about 0.5" wider than the rim width, so the textbook rim for a 255 tyre is 9.5" With the J style bead there is some leeway, but I can't remember how much it is.
