Guest markolambo
Having visited many car shows ....i alway wonder why a lot of the cars are in a less than show quality condition. ..this include the classoc car show yesterday...tbh i have seen better examples in the street including the supra stand ...the best supra was being used to raise money for charity rides the rest were average. By comparison there were two CSLs that were awesome and a few escorts that showed the attention to detal the cars should have, this may be contiversial but an honest opinion
Scooter
It's a combination of money and willingness not to use it. Those mint example will be lavished with money and used very little, few Supra owners will want to do that, so far at least. Don't you have two now, you maybe have the chance and perhaps a few more owners might in the long run. But resprays and interior work doesn't come cheap and then to 'just' show it only fits in with a few peoples ideas of ownership.
Mondo HnS
I guess it all depends on what someone defines as being of "show quality." For example, I was supposed to be at the NEC this weekend on the 300ZX stand - my 1992 model is incredibly clean, having been both resprayed and retrimmed this year - but I was in two minds about attending. As it turned out, it was traffic that saw me stay at home. In my opinion (and others), my car can hold it's own in a show environment and is a great example. It's not a concours example by any means, but I don't think that car shows are necessarily all about displaying cars that you could eat your dinner off. Mine wouldn't do well in any kind of "show'n'shine" contest, but that's not why I own it. Whilst it's undeniably nice to see a pristine example of your favourite car, I find it just as gratifying to see "more realistic" examples as well; cars that are driven and enjoyed, but which still look great and obviously well cared for. I'll be there next year, proudly showing it off. Will it be the most spotless and immaculate example there? Nope. Will it look out of place because of that? Definitely not... Guest markolambo
The supra stand was fine but really depends on what each individual expects ..as an existing owner i know what is standard..and what condition.to expect..whereas most non owners would not know what stock is. i assumed that the cars would be the concours examples especially after the post re stock best examples only.... the uk model had non standard alloys ..not stock ..all of the import headlights lenses needed refurb.. one had a stubby but generally they were ok and i have seen many equivilent standard examples used as dailys or weekend cars. I said it would be controversial but its because i expected concours as i saw with some csl..fords and even a mint mr2 and two tvr sagaris

I know one of the lads on the stand who spent over £1000 on the car especially for the show, worked tirelessly for a couple of days straight getting it detailed, the car itself has been resprayed, new lights all round - facelift front and rear, new wheels, new leathers, fully forged NA/T build its a beaut.. definitely not average and damn near to being as clean as you could get from a car thats actually used on the road as a daily driver! on top of that the members present at the show are doing their best to promote the club.. they have been working, talking to people and being a face for the club all day, all weekend.. props to them ! Josh42
Mine is the red car on the supra stand at the NEC....I'm sure the guys including myself would disagree strongly there, given the majorly positive reaction the whole stand has received. It's a shame that were not up to your obviously high standards. I think maybe you should have put your own cars instead.

There are few stock classic cars around, especially Supras, even if they haven't been tuned people will eventually need to go aftermarket once OEM parts are discontinued. These cars need to be owned by somebody, and in general these are enthusiasts and not millionaires that can afford a detail after every drive (or even every day and Sunday best versions). Besides that the stock alloys and ride height are very much out of fashion these days and so what if they've changed to a working aerial, if they want to drive to a show you can be damn sure they are entitled to listen to radio four! On top of that, these people have taken time out of their lives for the benefit of people there, incurring travel and other costs no doubt. Somewhere here is a Venn diagram with an imaginary centre point, where a wealthy owner that doesn't drive their car and has kept it stock, is willing and able to clean it up, drive it to a show and put it on display for the public.... Hitbox Junkie
The guys at the show are representing the club and have paid for it all off there own back. Not everyone has millions to spend on it let alone the time to do it. The cars there are some of the best examples in the club As far as I'm aware the cars are used? When I'm at car shows I don't expect the cars to be prestige but I go to meet the people behind the cars there story and there journey with the car. I certainly won't have mine spotless as it will be used ,abused and putting smiles on my face. When it's finished and I have free time next year it will certainly be attending shows with it if the club wants it there just to meet people. It will get a good clean in and out possibly will have shinny bits but il.have a colour code id be going with as it's my car my touch my journey no one else's and to.be honest if someone has something bad to say about it that's there opinion but I know that il be driving her not someone else. From the pictures the cars on show are quality and a real credit to the community. Mondo HnS
I could genuinely understand this thread if the cars on show were of average quality and condition, but all the pics I've seen from the NEC this year, whether from the Supra stand or any other, have shown cars that stand out a bloody mile! Ps....i am suprised a uk model displayed existed thought they had collapsed with rust..nice to see one there except the aftermarket alloys Regards

Scooter
A Supra is for using, saying that a massive factor in those other cars being more concours is the value of a mint example. What would the escort, merc TVR fetch if the owner sold it? That guy selling the great looking red uk spec is getting slated despite spending a fair sum and it's only £12K, if he'd gone to the lengths of the escort, what extra could he realistically expect? Pretty much nothing and it would be throwing more money away in comparison to the cars that are accepted investment vehicles as well as just actual vehicles.
