Step in the right direction by the PM - important to empower specifically women and make them part of society - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35345903 - people seem very quick to criticise, personally think a lot more needs to be done however living in this PC world (excuse the pun) politicians are treading on egg shells.

I think it's great what he's doing.

If you want to come and live in Britain, you should speak the language.

Regardless where you are from or your religious beliefs.

How long will it take before one of them has an epiphany and thinks f**k being PC, we have tried that and look where it has got us. They really need to grow some balls and put the UK first for once, it's a tiny step and I agree a lot more needs to be done.

Although the funding will be coming from the same scheme he cut the funding from last year.

Won't admit he was wrong though.

I'm sorry but why should WE be spending so much money so foreign nationals can learn our language?

Why should WE be paying more tax than companies like Facebook? I'd say that's more money gone than some English lessons. Or money on weapons for foreign nations?

I do agree with you Al I just think that there are some bigger money issues...

Because previous governments (Tory and Labour alike) forced mass immigration on England, and just assumed that people would integrate.

Had they been doing their jobs properly, they would have allowed foreigners with only a basic grasp of English a basic work visa, and full citizenship/ permanent residency would only have been granted upon passing some citizenship exams that would have included our language and our culture.

Of course, like their banker mates, no one in government will face criminal proceedings for what can only be described as a criminally naive and incompetent immigration program.

Money issues aside, considering Facebook aren't UK based, there are loads of issues that need sorting.

But we can't just sweep something under the rug because there are other issues as no issue will get resolved.

I think there should be a free scheme for certain groups - newly arriving refugee families for example.

But for those that have been here for years there is often a breadwinner in the house therefore there is no real need to access a 'free' scheme that the government has paid for because there is someone in the household than can pay for a course if wanted.

A lot of them simply don't want/need to learn the language.

I have relatives living in Spain in ex-pat communities and their grasp of the local language stretches to "uno pinot gregio por favor".

I also think Cameron has (for a change) come accross a little clumsy here. If he is going to try to promote a course for people to learn English and particularly for Muslim women so they don't turn to extremism (wtf) I wonder how people from the other hundreds of religions/countries/dialects might feel if they don't get a free course because they aren't Muslim.

Usual BS not very well thought out soundbite from the government to be honest.

Clumsy, yes, but he has the right idea. Extremism isn't just hating the infidel, or blowing people up. Isolation, though self inflicted language and cultural barriers is another type of extremism. It discourages integration into society, and encourages cultural enclaves.

So while individuals participating in this isolation aren't harmful to the country, collectively they are doing a lot of damage to society. :)

Refugees I can understand getting free tuition.

But for someone who doesn't "need" too because they have a breadwinner in the house is bollocks.

It doesn't matter if they are women, men or children.

They should learn the language.

And I feel the same for Brits who live abroad too
