pedrosixfour
So what's new in the world of TPMSs? Thinking about getting something for the track car, trying to get in & out of the car (with harnesses, HANS device, helmet, roll cage, pit limits, tyres cooling) to check all four tyres during a 20min session is just not feasible. Something like this would allow me to monitor the tyres on the fly and I could back off for a lap to allow pressures and temps to drop, once the optimums in both had been exceeded. As always, any insights/suggestions/sources are welcomed. Thanks.

Wez
A can based TPMS linked into the ECU would be nice, I have been looking into this recently.

pedrosixfour
A can based TPMS linked into the ECU would be nice. What advantage would that give over the usual configuration Wes? Would it be to make use of a display already installed, like the Toucan?
johnny g
I believe a CAN one would allow something like Syvecs to call a trip strategy if it detected pressure below a certain psi (voltage), thereby reducing engine power or throwing a CEL? Wez
Indeed, a TPMS strategy could be used to reduce power and speed as a safety feature, plus you could then output a warning to something like a dash, display or app EDIT: another bonus would be full datalogging of tire temp and pressure from each corner, could be handy for those doing trackdays or racing

Is the option out there for us mere mortals yet Wes, or is this something still in the development stages, or just cost prohibitive?

pedrosixfour
May be of interest http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=183419 That would probably make a fairly decent job of it. But I'd actually prefer the display to be on the bigger side, just for ease of scanning while on the charge. Loads of others to choose from here http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=&SearchText=tpms Too many!!
pedrosixfour
Next time your out , let me know , I can help you out as pit crew I had my best friend doing that for me at Japfest and I felt terrible for him! The monitor would make that job a bit of a doddle too though. Thanks for the offer buddy. Baz's memorial day for his brother in February would be the first day I'm aiming for. Definitely need a few test days before the T/A season kicks off again.

There are CAN based TPMS modules available, in fact most newer cars that have TPMS built in use a CAN module, ie AUDI, BMW, GTR etc. Maybe one of these could be made to work with an aftermarket ECU or logger, this would be the cheapest way, there are also 3rd party modules that support CAN but they tend to be more expensive, STACK for example is very expensive. Dnk
You should be able to set them pretty accurately once you have a base setting and know what they rise too after x amount of laps on any given day. We just refer to previous race/test data now and set them from that We get them pretty close to the required optimum pressures on my sisters Alfa doing this

But I still think a real-time view of what is going on with the tyres is something that would benefit me no end, I tend to go to most track days and time attack rounds alone, so having the data there in front of me would let me have the base set-up for the next T/A round, where time really is of the essence. bignum
I used to use 1 of these systems and found it to be pretty good, some people found that the sensors took too long to pick up a signal but mine worked well, http://www.tyresave.co.uk/smartire.html
