Motec M84 -- anybody running

For a new ECU looking down that list there are a lot of things missing or optional :search:

That is true but Bells and whistles are only good if you need them ; I would rather have an ECU that does the basics exceptionally well than have an ECU less capable but with more bells and whistles

Lack of knock control really puts me off , with 95 octane here ; It is a must for me

M800 seems to be the only unit with MoTeC’s Onboard Knock Module (OKM), SKM is additional add-on to other models

I presume I will need additional sensors too ; hard to get a price point for PNP kit

LeeP

Has a AEM FIC8 , now in no way are they bells and whistles but I have been running my single turbo with it for sometime now back in the day the fic6 was used by many on here,

This is a simple piggy back ecu and does not need a map as such to get you running if you have not changed injectors and running as stock, as I have had mine for some time and researched the hell out of it on the aem forum have over come some issues that have been missed by serveral mappers , alot of the time you really should leave the car with a mapper for a week to over come these issues. But thats alot of getting the single to work correctly with the stock ecu

All in all this is a cheapish way to over come your fuel issue as it can be mapped for the fuel quality used. Which would be adding a little fuel and regarding the timing a little,

Really research mate if you send a car to a mapper that dont know the ecu it can cost double or tripple in mapping time and setup its a pain

Concerns i have

Individual cylinder tables -- Not Supported

Knock control -- Not Supported

When you look at the basics its not great, by individual cylinder tables are you looking for a full table or just tweaks? even EMU has tweaks for timing and fuelling on an individual cylinder basis, which is really handy on an engine that runs a risk of inner or last cylinder running hot or weak etc.

I'd go MoTeC every time, their support is second to none.

What are you looking to spend?

MoTeC ECUs have a good resale value, should you wish go get rid of it in the future for something more up to date you probably wouldn't loose too much. Personally the minimum I'd look at would be M600, M800 then the latest M130 ECU.

Do you have a mapper in mind? If not, it would be worth contacting Fraser MacKellar (MacKellar Racing) who is a UK based mapper but travels. IIRC he had a Supra so you know you it wasn't mapped then left, it would have been constantly tweaked :) He is very busy but is certainly worth the wait.
