Wow, £3 for a large pizza. That wouldn't get us three slices of salami over here, lol.

Your comment on the new customised McDonald's platform is interesting since the UK's McDonald's Franchisees were sold the new platform based on its apparent success in Australia. A new platform in the UK costs £250K per store on average and it's the Franchisees that have to pay the entire costs. They were well chuffed with that.

Call me fussy but I'm not that keen on the touch screen ordering systems and the PSP gaming stations in certain fast food places. Some of the guys (and children) who frequent some of these establishments are not exactly the cleanest of folk. I'm not stereotyping but you've got to admit that there are some 'grubsters' about these days.

I know exactly what you mean from the "grubsters" comment. It's not unique to fast food restaurants though. They're the ones that'll let their kids go with no new clothes in order to buy a packet of smokes. My Wife works in a Nursery in a lesser off area, she see's this constantly and it's heartbreaking. Parents kicking around with the latest trainers or an expensive jacket while their kid comes in with the grubbiest hand me downs you have ever seen. We give all our girls clothes away to drives and people we know. One little girl, not knowing it was our little girls stuff, came in as proud as punch with her new outfit on. Brought my Wife to tears seeing her so happy and elegant looking in her new dress.

Parents have no excuse IMO. The Asda clothing range is perfect for kids and by no means expensive. You could kit your kid out for not much more than a packet of cigarettes but the parents would rather have their addiction than look after their kids. Same goes with the fast food, priorities are completely wrong with most nowadays.

Sorry to go on but just wanted to point out the other side of the coin. There are a few families in my Wife's work that are in a similar situation that they barely have 2 £ coins to rub together. Their kids are absolutely sparkling every day, clean, nicely dressed and happy as larry. They go on lovely holidays together either to camping sites or similar where they all spend time doing things together. The family does without the finer things (fancy clothes, big TV, fancy car, etc) in order to provide the things that actually matter. A lot of people, myself included, could learn something from the way they go about their lives. It's often the case that less is more.

Mcdonalds - their veggie burger tastes like a garden full of gnome sh*t, very over priced. Some of the staff are nice and polite - and fit...nothing else up there though.

Burger King has long been one of my favourites in terms of burgers - ever since their bean burgers came out, my family and I have loved them...till recently (hardly ever use BK) they have a very plasticky taste, may be the cheese they use. Burger can vary from place to place, when fresh its honestly a nice meal, fresh and juicy, other times its almost like eating sand. Also the price for a meal...wtf

Pizza hut - i actually cant fault pizza hut except for the price, ive only ever had a one bad experience at pizza hut but its not put me off going again. Their cookie dough bake ice cream thing is really nice.

Subway - probably one of the healthiest of the lot, decent range of toppings and in fills. Being a veggie i can only get a massive salad sandwich...which im not prepared to pay £4 for lol.

Cant comment on KFC, the only KFC ive properly been to is the one in malawi. £20 for a bucket of chicken :| Their veggie wrap consisted of a non existent hash brown which apparently doesnt exist over there, a bucket load of mayonnaise and some salad. Plus side we bought food and gave it out to the children outside, they loved it.

Good job you weren't in charge of the cooking back when fire was found then :D

The touch screens have been a success as they are now in every store here. Personally I prefer to speak to a person than a screen, whats next, no staff at all? They have taken on the stance of having a helper to show you how to use them ( similar to scan your own supermarkets which I also refuse to use :D ) and they are VERY surprised when I say no thanks I will go to the counter. The stores are kept very clean here ( from what a customer can see anyway) and since they have brought in the Barista coffee section I think they are on the right path..... I just prefer to speak to a person, not a machine!

I have been following these seven mammoth organisations for a while now and in some cases the only business priority that exists is that of the profit margins for their respective shareholders. One of the burger companies mentioned seems to focus solely on monetary returns amid a very challenging market place. some of them are cringing over the new living wage costs which will inevitably eat into their profits and subsequently the money that goes to the shareholders.

How about the social class question, chaps. Does the likes of Starbucks and Pizza Hut attract a more affluent clientele or is it a much of a muchness between the brands?

Depends entirely on the area...

However it is clear to me that wherever a Mcdonalds pops up around the North East (Bishop Auckland Main Street Excluded) they attract mass repeat custom in comparison to the other fast food establishments Pizza hut/Starbucks/Burger King/etc etc do not tend to have the same frequency of repeat custom that Mcdonalds seems to achieve in this area...

In actual response to your question my experience is that the same perspective clients may visit any one of the establishments regardless of social class however the lower generically priced food chain will usually attract more frequent visits.
