Bizzyfingers
As title described my bolts are stuck in the control arms in the rear subframe which I am refurbishing. Any tips on how to get them out without cutting the control arm itself?
Benjy
Cut the bolt either side of the bush, inside the mounting bracket. If you're very lucky, you *might* get the remainder of the bolt out of the centre of the bush without damaging it. If you're not worried about the bush, cut it as above, and then remove the bush and replace with a polybush.
Chris Wilson
You will have to cut the arms and the bolts and renew them. Beating on the ends of the bolts will just mushroom them. *SOMETIMES* my air hammer will shift them, with some heat, but the heat will still *ugger the bush in the arm, and thus the arm itself. Horrible job, use 1mm slitting discs with great care, in a small angle grinder or air grinder. I sometimes use an air hacksaw, but expect to break a few blades. When the slitting discs shatter they can take your eye out, so wear GOOD goggles. Expect scars. This is why I don't give fixed prices for geo adjustment Have fun.... bignum
Cut the bolt as said, then once the arm is removed, have access to a atleast 50 ton press to get the remainder of the bolt out or as i normally do get a brave mate to hold another bolt or similar on the bolt/arm on a concrete floor while you hammer the fock out of it with the biggest lump hammer you can find, once you get the old bolt moving spray with plusgas and it should come out, we broke a 40 ton fly press attempting this just to give you an idea what you`re dealing with. np89
Wouldnt bother trying to press out the remains. Just set the bush on fire. Works the best and doesnt harm the ball joint if you do it right

I also had to cut the bolts either side of the bush to get one of the arms out of the rear subframe, be careful using an angle grinder!
