a98pmalcolm
Hey all. I'm after some help. I noticed my power steering making a quiet whining sound while steering. So I checked my fluids and it was a little low so I topped it up. The next day as I got into my car for work and pulled out the drive way I noticed my steering was really stiff for the 1st time. So when I got to work I checked the res and it seemed a little too full. Once home I drained a little out.. Problem still there. Within seconds of starting the car the steering goes rather stiff. Looking into the res I can see the fluid swirling around so the pump is working. I have an after market res extended to the bulkhead but its been fine for the months its been on there. I used VW G 002 000 fluid but it wasn't too much so I couldn't that that as an issue. Any advice would be great. Thanks Paul Edited October 20, 2015 by a98pmalcolm (see edit history)
Rob W
This happened to me once, luckily enough near my house. By the time I got the car back (about 5 minutes of driving) it popped the hose off the cooler and pissed the fluid everywhere. It's never happened since but would also like to know if anyone has had this problem or none cause of this. I'm not sure if the hose come off which caused the heavy steering with fluid loss or the other way round.
evinX
This happened to me to, in town and the steering died and had to turn back home it was like driving a tank, had to put all my weight into the wheel. Not to worry easy to flush it, rushed down to Halfords and got Castrol dextron iii 2L, 8mm and 16mm hose from the local car parts shop, a 2L coke bottle and tape. I followed this thread http://web.archive.org/web/20040826231136/http://reepa.com/psflush.php
a98pmalcolm
So the possible solution is to flush it all?
a98pmalcolm
Is this what I need? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/engine-oils-and-car-fluids/car-tranmission-oils/automatic-transmission-fluids/?522776011&0&cc5_869
evinX
I used Castrol transmax dex iii http://www.opieoils.co.uk/images/VARIANT/large/966.jpg You need 2L of fluid 8mm hose 16mm hose Suction thingy to take some fluid out Bucket Mole grip to block a pipe off http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/37/119.html?1098351271 Guide I used with pictures...really good. You will see it all when you get in the bay, slightly different arrangement but same process and worked for us 1st time...turn the wheel side to side when flushing to get the fluid into all the chambers. And don't let the coke bottle empty and suck air in. 2 person job really..2nd is to let you know when the coke bottle is about to empty (turn car off) and to to tell you when fresh fluid comes out the hose.
