Max5437
Just picked up a gt4 and needed oil and my genius father put it in the charge cooler instead of the engine oil, put about 100ml in but now the engine light has come on. I'm stuck at a services about 100 miles from home. Any help greatly appreciated!!
RobUK
Get it recovered is probably the best advice...

Swampy442
Oil in the charge cooler wouldn't cause a warning light I don't think, its just the coolant for the intercooler aka radiator. Unless you have a low oil light or pressure light?
RobUK
I'm guessing the oil light is because the oil went in the cooler not the engine.... Surely oil in the cooler going round the charger can't be good??!?!
Mike2JZ
If you have some way of bridging the E1 & TE1 on diagnostic ports, see what error codes it is giving you, as this may give you a better indication of whats going on. edit: just realized this is on a GT4, no idea if their diagnostic system works the same as the supra
Max5437
There is oil in it now whereas before it was low and no idea, have nothing with us and can't find anything in the services that I can use to bridge the connection, literally drove it 40 miles and this has happened [emoji35]
Max5437
Managed to find its code 54 which is related to the charge cooler, hopefully it's just the fluid level was messed up when we tried to remove the oil

Max5437
Do you recon it would be safe to drive home safely ? Babying it the whole journey and no boost at all ? Horrible first drive for my first turbo car hAha bit do you redo it would be okay? Read online that it should be in a limp mode too so should be safe? Thanks for your help guys, best forum by far
Swampy442
It will be fine, the charge cooler is just a liquid cooled intercooler, has its own separate fluid, pump and cooler. Wont affect the engine at all. Just make sure you flush it out properly and refill with the correct fluid when you get back.
Chris Wilson
It will be fine, Are those what they call "Famous last words"?
Max5437
got it home fine, thanks for your help, will be sure to flush it through
Chris Wilson
I would suggest you some strong detergent through it with pump running for an hour to get the oil to break down. Then flush through with clean water a few times. Don't shout at your dad!
Max5437
Ill have a chat with my local mechanic (member on here) as i have literally nothing to flush it with or any form of pump to do it properly and yes i know, its my fault for not doing it myself but as his age the expectancy for him to be able to read a cap that said engine oil should have been in his capabilities and to be honest I just wanted to get out the services and enjoy driving it home, nice and ironic that is, thanks Chris I don't suppose you happen to make your fast road pads for the gt4? Chris Wilson
I do them for all GT4's and possibly have them in stock even Give me full details on year and model and I can give you a price, they work well on the GT4.
Max5437
Just what i wanted to hear its a ST205 1994 GT4, do you need anything else? also don't suppose you can recommend me some disks to go with them? thank you
Chris Wilson
A full set of my fast road pads for the UK spec Supra are the same, the ST205 uses those pads too, so they are on special offer at £140 plus VAT a full car set with free insured P&P to a UK post code. So that's £168 in total, delivered, and I have them in stock. I recommend stock discs, they are excellent quality unlike many aftermarket ones originating from the east and made from recycled bicycles, form what
