binfieldx
I've heard you should change the oil every 2500 miles, think i've got the ATS carbon LSD. What tools do I need to change it?
Dnk
One thing to do is make sure the filler plug comes undone before you drain it
binfieldx
One thing to do is make sure the filler plug comes undone before you drain it Lee @ SRD changed it about 2k miles ago but I don't want to keep bugging him with questions so thought i'd ask on here. i'll assume the bolt comes un done fine as he changed it without any issues
Mike2JZ
1) Jack car up or stick it on a ramp 2) Place something under the lsd to drain fluid into 3) Undo drain plug and go make a cup of tea 4) Once everything is drained out, put plug back in and undo the fill port plug. 5) Some oils comes with a long hose or funnel that you will need in order to pour oil into the LSD (Stock LSD's take about 1.5/2l of oil) 6) Pour the oil in, put fill port plug back in and job done. Seems a little strange that you need to change oil every 2000 miles.
Scooter
I'd of thought 20,000 miles is more like it for even an aftermarket diff? 2000 seems a ridiculously short (frankly incorrect) interval. The filler and drain plugs need an allen key type socket 6 or 8mm or thereabouts...
binfieldx
I read it on their site - 'No. The recommended oil change interval is same for ATS metal LSD and ATS carbon LSD. The carbon LSD went through a major upgrade in 2007 and after the improvement, the oil change is recommended every 2,000 to 3,000 miles which is same for the metal LSD. ATS carbon LSD' Thought I needed some kind of pump tool to get the oil in there?
Style
As long as you have a long enough hose you can gravity feed the oil in
stevie_b
I use a big syringe thing to suck the new oil out of the bottle, and push it into the diff. I don't think there's any space above the filler hole to pour straight from the bottle, even if the bottle has a tube spout. You have to get into a more awkward position for the gearbox than for the diff, but it's still not comfortable.
Scooter
If the bottle has a tube spout then you can pop it in the hole and squeeze the fluid in from below. Harder as the bottle gets emptier but as you'll have gallons of the stuff about with that service interval you can keep refilling the bottle before the next squeeze!
