Front facing plenum

Currently collecting parts to turbo my N/A however i don't want the intrcooler piping running over the engine. From what i understand i can't simply fit a TT plenum. Had a hunt on ebay and found this:

I was planning on doing the same thing actually.

 

You can get the TT intake to fit the NA, but it will need to be welded to fit. Or if you really wanted, swapping your head for the TT.

Otherwise, as I was askng Jake yesterday, XS do one similar to that for the GE. However getting rid of the normal NA intake could mean a loss of torque due to way it was designed. So I am stuck on what to do! :blink:

I'm guessing if you do it to a normal N/A you would notice the loss of torque. But if i'm turboing it anyway i tink it wouldn't be noticable.

 

Yes I would have thought so too. But I have been reading up on this for a few days. Seems that it can also have an effect on NA-T, coming from guys that have a FFI on their NA-T. But saying that, I'd think they would be running big Throttle bodies (80-100mm) which I think would cause it to be sluggish. Anyone on here shed some light on this?

your need to relocate your power steering res. these are quite harsh on the internal design. i would scan Supra forums and find a ported and intake with velocity stacks inside. i paid around £400 for mine with 80mm TB attached.

 

If you try and cut corners, you're only reduce horsepower. The hassle will remain the same whatever unit you buy.

 

Try and but a better second hand unit, plus if it's been fitted, it will have had most alignment issues resolved.

I paid £400. But then it had to be shipped as well. That included TPS and the TB all attached.

 

You're pay a bit on top of whatever you buy that intake for, to get the TB adapter welded/made etc.

 

Don't forget the fittings your need for the powersteering relocation. The union your need part number 44337-24020 is £45 quid delivered. PLUS your need hosing.

 

I just had to order the fitting so I can fit my intake. Pain in the ass.

 

Also, your need an IACV setup. Mk3 I'd expect. Oh and the intake needs the correct flange to suit it.

 

Your have to cut open your loom covers to relocate the IACV wiring, as it currently sits over the engine following the guide on the cams.

 

You will also have to relocate your battery. I used the SRD kit, though it's not the cheapest and the fittings though nice, didn't suit the position of my battery very well. That exercise will cost you a pretty penny as you need heavy duty cable the length of the new battery location.

 

Your need to use OEM TB or if you find a 80/100mm source a TPS sensor adapter.

 

Don't forget intake on the wrong side, so new intercooler piping (and with that, new holes).

 

Vacuum lines need to be installed. I advise replacing them all at the same time (they will be old anyway).

 

Plan all these items out first. No FFIM intake will be easy. Yes it looks pretty, but no one seems to mention it's actually a pain in the ass :D

Jheeeze! Didn't know that much work planning and work had to be done, people make it seem like it's an easy task!
