Nic
In the meantime I would get your own written quote for replacement parts and respray. Good luck with getting it sorted.
Abz
That is good news, he will be in for a shock when he finds out he needs to repair the wings.

I've been trying to find the wings but haven't had any luck. Last time I found them it was after 2 years of looking. To be honest, I'd go for different cheaper ones if he agrees to do both sides. It would still work out cheaper I reckon. Paint would be around the £200 mark I think.
Mondo HnS
Decent initial result there - hopefully they won't mess you around when it comes down to it though. Honestly though, as if the digger driver just nonchalantly said to his gaffer "Yeah, I think I hit the car!" Attitudes like that just astound me.... Looks like Border only sell the complete kit now on their website, they are still listed separately here though if it helps http://www.autostyle-usa.com/?pkey=item_info&i_code=BDR10121610001&car_url=jza80
Havard
Result. I am surprised they admitted it to be honest. H.
Brazil
Man I love them wings..! You should make a mold of these wings and fabricate these for sale!
Al Massey
Dude don't go cheaper unless you like another set of wings! And go get 3 independent quotes on full repair and paint And at least 1 or 2 quotes on new wings and bonnet, and painted. That way you've got a case if they say it's too much blah blah. I've got a friend who has owned two bodyshops in the past who is popping round tomorrow to give me his opinion. His shops were very well renowned around here and he's done a lot of high end work, including building a '69 mustang fastback. I've wanted to change the wings for a while but with the blending I haven't had the money, so it may be an opportunity for me. We'll wait and see. Thats a good £2500 cheaper than where I found them last time! Those are FRP though, mine are Glass Fibre, which is why they were much more expensive I guess. Where it's shattered, it looks like crystal on the inside.
Mk4Gaz
Glass fibre is grp dude. Grp is 'glass reinforced plastic', basically fibreglass. Sorry to hear about this, I'd cry! Hopefully it gets resolved soon
listy
My front bumper is FRP/GRP and is a completely different composite to the wings. I'll try and get a close up of it tomorrow. Maybe the wings are just much better quality. They sound almost metallic if you flick/tap them.
Mk4Gaz
Hmmm, frp is generally considered to be higher quality, as although it could be fibreglass - it could also be kevlar or carbon fibre. Grp is simply fibreglass I'm wondering if the layup of the parts is the key. Frp is sheet material, whereas grp (although can be fibreglass matting) can be sprayed into a mould, in the form of resin mixed with glass fibres. Maybe it's the fact that the material is laid in sheets of matting in frp, that it's considered stronger?
listy
It's definitely not kevlar or carbon I know that much
Dnk
If the wing is cracked in several places then replace it, repairing them is a non starter in my opinion.

uzzyuzzy
Some people just don't respect others property. I had a builder working on the front of the house and he had his tool kit on my daily driver bonnet and all the bits outs. I can't write what I said to him on here. listy
I think if his boss didn't notice he would have tried to get away with it. That's what annoys me the most. This is for you Mk4Gaz.......any ideas? It does look like fibreglass, just not any fibreglass I've seen before.
listy
Well I've just had my mate pop round and the good news is it is repairable. It's a big repair job, but doable. He also said the wings are almost definitely original and not moulds and definitely aren't cheap frp ones. So at least I know they are proper decent panels. I also have a garage to take it to, which used to be part owned by may friend, which has just had a Murcialago and a 458 in for body repair, so I'm happy for it to go there on his recommendation. Just need to get all that sorted and for the muppet to foot the bill and we are all good.

listy
Well, still being messed around with this a bit. Lack of communication between the boss of the company and his lacky who deals with these things. I've been told by the boss that he and the sub contractor are splitting the bill, and been told by the lacky that insurance is dealing with it. Really starting to do my head in now. All I need is an email to confirm how it's being paid for so I can get it off for repair. I do still have the recorded conversation so may have to use that soon if I don't get a straight answer. Hitbox Junkie
Do you keep it on the road then or have you got off road parking?
listy
It was temporarily on the road but was going to be moved to an off road parking spot the next day, as ironic as that is.
listy
Well, it looks like it's going to be an insurance job. After the company originally agreeing to pay for the damage and not get insurance involved, they have now said they will not pay the fee to recover the vehicle to and from the garage, as that would put the bill over their policy excess. So now after waiting for 2 weeks for a solid response to the quote for repair, I'm now effectively back to square one with their insurance company, the details for which I will get on Monday when the guy is back in the office. I'm now worrying that because it has dragged on for so long, that not much will happen. As silly as I have been, I did not make my insurer aware of the incident as it was going to be settled without getting insurance involved. As it isn't my insurer that is paying out would it make a difference?
