aerial's never worked

Morning

Since I've had my supra I've never had radio, I sometimes pick radio 1 up faintly. I assume because my factory aerial has never worked. I've got a JVC double headunit KW R700 which imo is horrible looking in the supra, to make it worse they've cut around the plastic central column to fit with what seems to be done with a normal kitchen knife. In the long run plan is it to get a nice smart looking head unit followed by a new central column to fit properly.

Wonder if the motor on the aerial has stopped working or isn't wired up to the head unit correctly, I haven't had a chance to get into the back of the head unit to see as the past owner didn't give me the keys to get it out.

Thanks

Several causes of this as you've pointed out, but a common one is that the nylon toothed belt with which the motor drives the aerial up and down is snapped/perished. If this is the cause, the remedy is a new aerial mast unit (which comes with the belt attached to it).

You might be able to hear a click when the motor relay engages: sorry I can't be more specific on that, it's been ages since I've played with it.
