mplavery
Thanks Gabriella I would like a Ducati , 1098s is nice or a Panigali , 748 be nice too 1098s are great bikes ... Been on my mates a few times now.. Though I would not use it for a commute bike though if you sit in traffic.. My mate selling his funny enough .. I would not bother with a 748 personally .. There are a few good Helmets brands .. HJC, Arai, Shoei, AGV .... You really need to go to a bike shop like J&S and have a word with one of the sales team and try some on, it's all about the fitment .. Some brands just won't be a nice fit .. I'm not sure if your riding to commute or on sunny days .. Commute you may want to look at textile jacket and jeans and some waterproof overalls ...if your doing just a Sunny days I'd go for some leathers .. You can get one or two piece but I prefer one piece .. There are a few good brands of clothing.. RST, ALPINESTARS, FURYGAN, BKS .. again other brands have slightly different fitment.. But I have found J&S are really good for gear, my local J&s know there stuff and have bought most my gear there Here mine and my mates
Jellybean
Thanks Dude , stunning bikes! I dont think we have J&S in Ireland , most of the bike shops here sell cheap crap and on par with Aldi Helmets lol Bike is just for Sunny Days , too dangerous in Dublin to commute on a bike during the winter , dangerous enough in a car; crazy drivers I am a bit of a brand whore, would lover the Ducati Corse Gloves and boots plus a Ducati Helmet but the Dainese stuff is nice too ; I think Arai, Shoei, AGV do most of the Ducati range of helmets ; problem is again finding somewhere to try a Helmet on With regard Boots, would they be the same as a runner/shoe fitment or is it based on brand ; looks like I can only get the Ducati boots from the UK

Jellybean
What about BikeWorld on the Long Mile Road mate? I be better off going to Aldi lol Cheap crap
pedrosixfour
Really? I bought a lovely pair of Alpinestar motocross boots up there, back in the day. Think I bought a few other bits of gear up there too, but maybe the road bike section is another story, or the whole place has gone to pot over the years. It's ten years since I stepped foot in there.
Jellybean
I will drop in but i think most consumers just want cheap items, alot of the places I have seen have high volumes of low quality gear or very very small selection of the good gear Most places are pre-order , its a PITA, you cannot try anything on
mplavery
Some boots like RST don't have as much flex in them as others .. Some are more comfortable walking around in then others so depends on what your using them for .. Some Bikers will be in them most of the day so they will avoid track boots .. I'm afraid it's another try them out lol You want to to pop over the UK and try on as much as you can so you know what brands you prefer lol J&S normally have loads of gear in stock ... Be worth the trip if your buying all your gear
Jellybean
I was looking at the AGV helmets , big price difference between K3/K5 and the Aria RX7
Alex
Helmets come in different shapes. And so do heads. You HAVE to go with the brands that fit your head, no matter what appeals visually. I for instance cannot wear AGV/ARAI. I have to wear HTC/Shoei/Shark/Schuberth. As a minimum I would try on these 6 brands...probably Bell too. You're looking for a shape and size which hold firmly yet doesn't have any obvious pressure points. Gloves, winter is coming, if learning now, get ones that are less sporty and more wind/water resistant - comfy warm hands are better in all situations! Again you need to try them on. Boots, 3rd most important after helmet and gloves IMO. Again, the fit of the boots varies wildly. Sidi are too narrow for me, same with Dainese. I've got Alpine Stars SMX5 at the moment - they are snug but very well protected. I think the winner though is always Daytona - they make amazing boots, comfy and protective. You need Ankle protection as much as anything with boots, it's about what happens if the bike ends up on your leg whilst you're both sliding down the road. Totally agree on the buying 2nd hand textiles to learn with. However I'd say that new sets don't have to be expensive. I'd have a look on eBay. But I'd got try things on in a store if possible. As for the bike, aspiring to a Ducati 1098 is cool, I wanted an old SP-2 VTR1000 when I started to learn. What I actually got though was a fast Naked. I got a CB1000R as it was a piece of piss to ride, yet had a great 1000cc engine and looked pretty cool too, to me. I upgraded to the S1000RR after 3 years. A 1098 was considered but I couldn't be doing with the heavy clutch (I do commute) or the alleged reliability issues. I think what I'm trying to say is, get something you can develop your riding on before you go for the bike you really want...as you may find as you experience grows so your taste may change. Hence I've not got the SP-2...
Jellybean
Thanks Alex! I tried on a Shoei the weekend and the AGV helmets , I think the AGV will suit my head better, they have a great range of sizes in the AGV compared to other marques I tried the SM AGV and it was tight ! Was going to ask how tight it should be lol Duelly noted Bike wise , I will do the IBT training on a Bandit and go from there but great advice! It's ten years since I stepped foot in there. Dropped out the weekend , the place is like TK MAX ;everything is thrown everywhere , nothing organised , helmet brands all mixed up Made my head spin , trying to look for anything, chaos in there , reminds me of a car boot sale The Dainese Jackets , clothing in general looked tatty, used ; they are not cheap items of clothing ! I would be a bit nervous of them getting to size a helmet for me , I get the impression they are more interested in the sale , and its grand type of attitude I also called out to Ducati Dublin, basically we have Shoei, Schburt helmets over there and there, try them on ; none of them Arai I wanted but he would order me in one based on a Shoei or Schubert fitment , I did not think was acceptable, Arai are not a cheap item to be guessing if it fits, even asking about sizes for boots and gloves, zero Ducati stock I just did not find him very accommodating, and had the attitude , he wasnt bothered
pedrosixfour
Just another retail outlet run by ignorant staff as opposed to a bike shop run by enthusiasts. Figures really.
